Moss grows into cedar shakes, not just on top of them.
Cedar is soft wood. Moss roots work into the grain and hold water against the shake. It stays damp all winter.
From the driveway a roof like this reads as old and grey. Most of that grey was moss.
The second photo is after. That warm cedar color was under there the whole time.
We never blast cedar. High pressure tears up soft wood. We treat the moss and rinse it gently instead.
Message us if your cedar roof has gone dark.
