This is why.
Saturday night, a large area of dune grass was burned after the use of fireworks on the beach. Dunes are much more than piles of sandβthey are a natural barrier that helps protect Ocean City from coastal storms, flooding, erosion, and high winds. The dune grass holds the sand in place and helps preserve the dunes that protect our community, homes, businesses, and beaches.
One firework can undo years of environmental growth and restoration efforts in just a matter of minutes.
So yes, we will continue enforcing the law. We will continue confiscating illegal fireworks. And we will continue doing everything we can to protect the people, property, and natural resources that make Ocean City special.
