CombCutters: Live Bee Removal

CombCutters: Live Bee Removal CombCutters is a small business run & owned by local beekeepers. We remove & relocate hives from un And so Rebecca had a plan. A what a delicious world it was!!!

Three friends, Monique, Rebecca and Jerry were living together in Miami working to make their lives sustainable. They were growing fruit trees, gardening, raising chickens for eggs, composting, and creating a permaculture paradise! Of all the amazingness they could gather from their backyard, there was one thing missing…Sticky, Drippy, Golden Sweetness!! She came home one day with a package…a pack

age of bees! All three friends excitedly began to gather information and gain hands on experience as they entered the world of beekeeping together. They learned that bees are incredible communicators, builders, architects, care givers, pollinators, and protecters; and just as they were living in community, building their lives together, so were the bees. They felt a true connection to the bee world, and appreciated the sweetness it brought into their lives! They learned that, while bees have been threatened in recent years by colony collapse disease, habitat destruction, and extermination, in South Florida, where there's no winter die-off, there is a thriving wild bee population. As they got deeper into the bee world, their friend, Brendhan, of Bee Barf Apiaries, introduced them to the idea of removing hives from peoples' properties as an alternative to extermination. In 2009, when Monique's birthday rolled around, the three friends decided to take the plunge, by answering a "free bees" ad on craigslist! They removed a well established hive from a garage; it was the perfect birthday adventure! With many pointers from Brendhan, the removal was a success!! And thus began CombCutters: Live Bee Removal Service. In recent years, Monique & Rebecca have combined their love for bees with their passion for environmental education, and offer engaging presentations at schools, customized for each audience.

🌻Pollinators!
We love honey bees for everything they teach us and how incredibly prolific they are in pollinating our neighborhoods AND we understand the incredibly complex history. The impact they have on our lesser known, and (unfortunately) cared about local pollinators, should part of our purview as beekeepers.

🪲Yes, local pollinators - not just honeybees or monarchs!
Join us for a decolonized good time!

🦋POLLINATORS! Is a comprehensive learning space about pollinators and their impact on our ecosystems. We’re exploring this from a hyper-local lens, and giving you the tools to gain a greater understanding of our home, South FL.

🔬During this workshop we will:
- Talk entomology, evolution, and dive into local pollinator habitats
- Go on an interactive plant walk: exploring local plants their role within our ecosystems
- Think through the indispensable positioning of honeybees: how did we get here? ethical implications, and lessons from the hive

❣️RSVP link is on our bio!

Last Sunday's event Wax! was a sweet & dream success. Butterflies, sunlight & people danced as Sam chose the tunes; dipping wick into liquid beeswax, we watched candles take shape, grow & transform to become their own source of light & magic.

"Wax!" was our first drop-in event of the year. Join us on March 22nd for our first interactive bee-centered workshop of the year. We'll learn about pollinators & the plants they pollinate, open a beehive, and take a plant walk around the yard. Visit combcutters.xyz/events or see the link in bio to see our tiered pricing options and to register for the workshop.
