gonna keep this REAL real quick 😭

every day i scroll past 10 different guys in suits telling me how to "manifest my dream business"

bro

i'm soaking wet

it's 110 outside

i'm chasing a single drop of water down a panel before it spots the paint

i don't need to manifest

i need to FINISH this car so i can eat dinner with my family tonight 😭

here's what the gurus and the gatekeepers won't tell you 👇

nothing in this trade got invented by somebody following the rules

every product, every technique, every shortcut that actually works started with somebody trying something the OGs said couldn't be done

then it worked

then it became the new standard

then somebody started gatekeeping THAT 😬

it ain't always pretty

some days the job goes sideways

a product flashes too fast

a panel temp spikes

a job takes three hours longer than you planned

it ain't pretty but it's HONEST work

and you finish it anyway 🤝

if i had listened to half the stuff posted online

i wouldn't have a business right now

i wouldn't be detailing the cars i'm detailing

i wouldn't be feeding my family off this craft

the only way you find out what works is by TRYING

most people will never do the things they could do because somebody convinced them it wasn't possible

mindset doesn't dry a panel

a 10-step rulebook doesn't extract a seat

WORK does

experimenting does

failing does

showing up the next day and doing it cleaner does

but the hustle evolves

what was impossible in 2010 is the standard play in 2026 if you're willing to do the reps

put the fries in the bag

then come back tomorrow and put MORE fries in the bag

it won't always be pretty

I almost didn't take this job.

An Audi SUV that had been sitting in someone's side yard for months. From the photos it just looked dusty. I drove out, leaned over the cowl to start pulling pine needles — and something was looking back at me.

Fifteen years detailing in Phoenix and I've opened a lot of doors I probably shouldn't have. This one made me step back. The owner had no idea — they hadn't sat in the car since before summer. A car that sits out here for even a few months stops being a car. The desert doesn't wait. Bugs move in, then dust, then needles, and the yard slowly takes it back.

I took the job anyway. Slow first, loud second — pine needles by hand before water ever touched it. 🕷️

we hold our breath

we picture you walking up to it with your jaw on the floor

we picture you sending it to your family
to your friends
to the group chat

we picture the "yo this is INSANE"
the "you did THAT, king"
the "bro i can't believe this is the same car"

what we get instead 👇

it's the LACK of words

something that doesn't make us question our life choices 😭

like it's gonna text them tomorrow asking for rent money

here's the part nobody talks about 👇

the like is the cheapest form of support that exists

it's free
it's one tap
takes less effort than blinking

but the people who genuinely loved the post still won't hit it

they'll save it
they'll send it to the group chat
they'll watch it three times
they'll quote it later

but a like?

apparently that's where the line is 😭

here's what most people don't realize about how this works 👇

if 100 people watch and only 5 like, instagram reads the post as mid

if 100 watch and 80 like, the algorithm goes "okay this is heat" and pushes it to a thousand more

so when somebody you love skips the like on a post they actually loved

they're hiding it from the next person who needed to see it

it's not just about us anymore

addressing this the right way 🤝

i got some pushback from one of the top guys in this industry about a recent post

paint correction in direct sun

he wasn't wrong

most detailers shouldn't try it

it's hard enough in a controlled bay

trying to pull it off in 110° arizona heat with no shade is a whole different sport

if you don't have years of experience reading panel temps, picking the right product flash times, and adapting your technique on the fly

stay in the shade

stay safe

stay textbook

but here's what i think this industry needs to talk about 👇

the textbook is outdated

a lot of the rules we follow were written for climates and conditions most of us don't actually work in

controlled bays

moderate temps

unlimited time

no real-world pressure

that's not the trade for everyone

guys in phoenix, vegas, texas, florida — we operate in conditions the manual doesn't account for

heat changes chemistry

humidity changes flash times

direct sun changes everything

and the only way to know what works in those conditions

is to actually do it

over and over

for years

until you learn what your eyes and your panel temp gauge are telling you in real time

i'm not saying throw the textbook out

i'm saying the textbook needs an update

written by detailers who actually work in these climates

not just guys in climate-controlled shops

the value 👇

respect the rules

then earn the right to update them
