Running a business is really hard.

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend... it’s one of the hardest things you will try and balance

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small businesses…….and hopefully more of us will stick around!

A few months back I asked a customer for a quick referral, this girl took so much time out of her day and made me cry. I just love her. She gives me too much credit as she keeps her house up really well.
It's lengthy but I so appreciate her kind words.

Hello!
We are the ......family, and we have employed Gina as a housekeeper for nearly a year. We've had several other individuals and companies clean our home in the past, but Gina is by far the best. As such, I am happy to provide a recommendation on her behalf.
Let me first share that I have always felt comfortable with Gina in my home and trust her completely. She is a perfectionist in her work, and she tailors her methods to our home's surfaces/appliances. I can list an entire page of praises regarding her performance, but I will try to stick to just a few highlights.
- She is timely and reliable. If she is going out of town, she provides an alternate cleaner to fill-in for her while she's gone (whom I also enjoy having).
- She's great to talk to and will always find a solution to your concerns. For example, we often have people in our home because it is a luxury showpiece for a contractor in town, so I need our home to look perfect. She researches products to make our home dazzle, and everyone is sold by the results when they come for a walkthrough. Additionally, I have a baby who is severely medically compromised. She ensures that none of the cleaners will harm him, and all of his care providers (nurses, therapists, and a doctor) write notes commenting on how safe and hygienic our home is kept. Gina is the key to keeping our home sterile and free from the worries of the current pandemic.
-She cares about our home like it's her own. I have irreplaceable antique pieces from all over the world displayed in our home, and she is the only person allowed to help clean around those items. We also have a custom shower with a mural made out of fossilized fish tiles from Wyoming. Again, she is the only person I would ever allow to touch or clean that surface.
-As I've previously stated, Gina is trustworthy. She has the code to our front door, and I don't have to worry about putting away any valuables such as cash or jewelry before we leave for the day because everything will be in its place when we return. In ten years of hiring cleaning professionals, this is the only instance where I feel like I can have someone in my home unsupervised which is a huge relief.
-She's congenial. This may seem like a small point, but I love when she visits because it's like seeing my best friend every week. She brings gifts and treats my crazy kids like they're angels. We all enjoy having her here.
I am beyond pleased with Gina and her work. I readily share her contact information with any incoming physician at Asante who is looking for a housekeeper with the confidence that they will also find her help indispensable.
