HOW TO…declutter your home
Note: We must take the emotions attached to our things OUT and start with facts. 🥰
STEP 1: Start With a Plan
• Pick one room only (don’t bounce around).
• Schedule 1–2 hours.
• Gather:
• Trash bags
• Donation box
• Laundry basket
• Storage bins (if needed)
Label 4 categories:
1. Keep
2. Donate
3. Trash
4. Relocate (belongs in another room)
⸻
STEP 2: Clear Surfaces First
Start with:
• Countertops
• Tables
• Nightstands
• Dressers
Remove everything.
Only put back what you truly use.
Clear surfaces instantly to make a room feel cleaner.
⸻
STEP 3: Work in Small Sections
Break the room into zones:
• Closet
• One drawer at a time
• Under the bed
• One cabinet at a time
Finish one section completely before moving on.
⸻
STEP 4: Use the “Honest Question” Method
Ask yourself:
• Have I used this in the last year?
• Would I buy this again today?
• Does this add value to my life?
• Am I keeping this out of guilt?
If it’s a “no” — let it go.
⸻
STEP 5: Closet Rule (Great Place to Start)
In 6 months, donate what hasn’t moved.
⸻
STEP 6: Contain What You Keep
If a drawer is full, something must go before adding more.
⸻
ROOM-BY-ROOM ORDER (If You Want Structure)
1. Bathrooms (quick win)
2. Bedroom
3. Kitchen
4. Living Room
5. Closets
6. Storage areas last
Start with an easier room to build momentum.
⸻
Do a QUICK 15-MINUTE DAILY RESET
consistency beats one exhausting marathon!
⸻
Important Mindset Shift
Decluttering isn’t about getting rid of things.
It’s about making space for peace.
Your home should support you — not stress you!
