My Perspective as a Professional Airbnb Cleaner on the New Guest Checkout Policies

As someone who owns and operates a cleaning business and services multiple Airbnb properties, I wanted to share my perspective on Airbnb’s changes regarding checkout expectations for guests.

Personally, I have absolutely no problem with guests no longer being expected to strip beds, wash dishes, take out trash, or complete other cleaning tasks before checking out. In fact, I’ve been running my business this way for years.

I operate my cleaning business a little differently than many other cleaners. I understand that Airbnb turnovers require much more time, attention, and responsibility than regular residential cleanings. However, I also believe in working smarter, not harder.

For example, if I walk into a six-bedroom rental and only two beds have been slept in, why would I strip all six beds and create unnecessary laundry? I can tell which beds have been used and which haven’t. The same goes for towels. When guests aren’t required to throw everything into the washing machine, I can easily determine what has actually been used rather than washing everything unnecessarily. That saves time, water, electricity, and money for the property owner.

As far as dishes go, the only thing my Airbnb owners ask their guests to do is load and start the dishwasher. If a few dishes are left in the sink, that’s perfectly fine! It’s part of the job.

The same goes for trash. Guests are simply asked to place their trash in the outside bins or dumpster located right outside the property. They’re certainly not expected to take their trash with them.

My philosophy is simple: Guests are paying to enjoy their vacation, not to spend the last morning cleaning the property.

As professional cleaners, these responsibilities fall on us. That’s what we’re hired and paid to do. My goal is to make the turnover process as smooth and efficient as possible while maintaining a high standard of cleanliness for every incoming guest.

I also believe that how a cleaning business operates has a direct impact on the property owner’s expenses. Creating unnecessary laundry, adding extra hours of work, or expecting guests to do tasks that should be included in a professional cleaning doesn’t benefit anyone.

At the end of the day, I want guests to enjoy their stay, property owners to feel confident their homes are being cared for, and every rental to be clean, comfortable, and ready for the next arrival.

A good Airbnb cleaner doesn’t just clean the property. They understand how to manage a turnover efficiently, protect the owner’s investment, and provide a great experience for the guests.

That’s how I’ve always approached my business, and I don’t see any reason to change that.
