Culver's is celebrating “40 years of deliciousness” with a Birthday Block Party on July 18 at Culver's in Sauk City, Wisconsin — the site of the original Culver’s restaurant. The celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to noon beginning with a ceremony led by Culver’s co-founders Craig and Lea Culver, and other Culver’s officials.

Festivities will include yard games, giveaways, a historical display, and a commemorative painting to be done at the event. Additionally, custard will be offered for just 89 cents during the block party and there will be free birthday cake until it’s gone.

Craig and Lea Culver, and Craig’s parents George and Ruth Culver opened the first Culver’s Frozen Custard & ButterBurgers Restaurant in Sauk City on July 18, 1984. Now, forty years later, the chain has 980 locations across 26 states. All Culver’s restaurants nationwide will be donating funds from sales on July 18 to a charity of their choice.

Wisconsin-based Kwik Trip held a groundbreaking ceremony this week for its newest distribution center in DeForest, Wisconsin. Currently, Kwik Trip's more than 875 locations are serviced from their lone distribution center in La Crosse. The new DeForest site, located at the southwest intersection of Highways 51 and 19, will service 350 stores and will reduce costs of distribution while also taking pressure off the La Crosse employees.

Kwik Trip President and CEO Scott Zietlow, whose family has owned the company since its inception, says they picked DeForest as the site based on the concentration of stores in the area and research.

"We did our own research with this, but we also engaged a third party - their expertise is distribution and warehousing," Zietlow said. "They came up with models for us - where might we have the most efficient and effective location."

The new 280,000-square-foot center will also feature a truck wash and maintenance facility, an on-site health clinic for its workers, and four rooms specifically designed to ripen bananas. Kwik Trip expects to employ 400 people at the new facility once construction is completed in 2025.
