On This Day in Aviation History: Celebrating Milestones

On August 26, 1959, a significant moment in aviation history occurred when the VC-137 A, a modified Boeing 707-120, entered service. This aircraft replaced the Lockheed Super Constellation as the primary means of transport for the U.S. President. The introduction of the VC-137 A marked the beginning of the jet age for the White House, following pressure from Secretary of State John Dulles, who wanted the President to arrive at international meetings with the modern image provided by a jet, rather than a propeller plane.
