Choosing a fiberglass pool color from a small sample can be harder than it sounds because you’re not really choosing the color of the pool—you’re choosing how the water will look once the pool is filled.

The pool finish, sunlight, depth of the water and surroundings can all influence the final appearance. A finish that looks fairly subtle on a sample may create a completely different effect once you’re looking through several feet of water.

Instead of asking only, “Which pool color do I like?” think about the overall look you want for the backyard. Do you picture bright, crisp blue water? Something deeper and more dramatic? A softer, more natural look?

It’s one of those selections that deserves a little more thought than pointing to your favorite square on a sample board.

Pool steps aren’t just how you get in and out of the water. They can change how you actually use the pool.

Wide entry steps can become a place to sit, cool off and talk while still being in the water. They can also make getting in and out more comfortable for different ages and abilities. Depending on the fiberglass pool design, the steps may take up very little swimming space or become a larger feature of the pool.

When you’re comparing fiberglass pool models, look beyond the overall shape and dimensions. Pay attention to the entry design and picture how your family will actually use it on a normal summer afternoon.

A bigger pool doesn’t automatically mean a deeper pool is better. Think about how your family will actually use the water. Will most of the time be spent relaxing, floating and playing? Do you want an area where adults can comfortably stand? Will kids be using the pool regularly?

Pool depth affects the way a pool feels and functions just as much as its overall size. When comparing fiberglass pool options, don’t just look at the shape from above. Look at the depth profile too.

Fall leaves are beautiful. At the bottom of your pool? Not so much.

As leaves begin falling across East Tennessee, pool care changes a little too. Skimmer baskets can fill faster, leaves left in the water can sink and begin breaking down, and all that extra organic debris can affect your water chemistry.

When you’re planning a pool, don’t only stand in the backyard and decide where it looks best. Go inside. Look through the kitchen window. Stand at the back door. Sit where you normally have your morning coffee. Look out from the living room.

Your pool becomes part of the view from inside your home, too. Good pool placement considers how the backyard looks when you’re using it AND when you’re looking at it. That’s one of the reasons planning the entire outdoor space matters before excavation begins.

Most people start thinking seriously about a pool when the first hot weekend arrives. But fall is actually a great time to start planning.

When you begin earlier, you have more time to think through the pool model, placement, patio space, landscaping, access to the backyard, and all of the other decisions that determine how the finished space will work.

You also get to spend the winter looking forward to something a lot more exciting than cold weather. If a new backyard is on your list for 2027, you don’t have to wait until spring to start the conversation.
