I want to share a little story about why personal relationships with clients is so important.
I came from a company that told us to “keep the chit chat to a minimum” and “if they ask you anything just tell them to contact us.”
You go in, you do the job, you get out. Period.
So when I started this business almost 3 years ago, one thing I really wanted to do is connect to my customers. Who they are, what they need, what season of life are they in, how can I maximize their experience with me, what small way can I make their day.
Yes I have time limits and a schedule to keep. Yes we are there to do a job and yes sometimes people simply don’t want to talk. However, connecting with the people who’s home you’re in can be truly life changing.
From newborns to sick spouses to financial strain to home repairs to health issues to work restraints to pet loss to relationship difficulties …I see and hear it all.
Not only is it important to connect and sympathize with customers but it’s also very therapeutic for me to get to share a little bit of my life with them!
Today I had a sweet lady, who could tell I was going through a lot in this season of life, and as I’m mopping out of her house she handed me my check and hugged me. As she hugged me she immediately started praying for me ❤️
Moment like this are truly irreplaceable but they aren’t possible without connection. This sweet lady would have never thought to do that if she saw me as ‘just a cleaner.’ She knew I was a person of faith and she knew some of the struggles I was having. The heart and intention behind this is something that no dollar amount can ever match.
I say all this to say, connection with your customers can truly be life changing if you take the time to listen and understand what they are going through. Knowing people on a deeper level gives you a clearer understanding of why your doing what your doing and it is so much more fulfilling when the job is complete.
To all my customers, you guys are NOT just names on a schedule. You guys are real friends, with real struggles, real issues, real feelings and I promise to always be an ear that listens and a heart that cares. There is never a time schedule so tight that I can’t stop for a moment to talk and reflect with you about anything you’re going through.
Life is too short and this mop is not as important as you and your stories 🫶🏼
