Major Road Closure

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has notified the Union County Sheriff’s Office that all five lanes of Highway 74 near Main Street in Wingate, North Carolina will begin shutting down at 10:30 a.m. and will remain closed through 6:00 p.m. this evening.

This closure is due to a water main break beneath the roadway that has caused extensive damage. Through traffic is encouraged to use the Highway 74 Bypass, and local residents should expect numerous detours in place to work around the closure.

Please allow extra time to reach your destination and watch for detour signage and crews actively working in the area. Please share this post to help notify others of the road closure.
