🚨WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT 2/20/26 🚨

Due to road/weather conditions & the landfill being closed, we have decided we will not be running today, Friday, 2/20/26. Our Friday customers will be picked up one day late this week. Please be sure there is a clear path to your garbage free of any obstacles & snow.

IF YOUR REGULAR PICK UP DAY IS:

FRIDAY ➡️ you will be picked up on Saturday 2/21/26.

Sorry for any inconvenience! Please do not risk injury just to get your garbage out! Stay safe everyone!

Area Sanitation is monitoring the dangerously cold temps predicted through noon on Friday, 1/23/26. Our current plan is to run our Friday route, but we are delaying our start time one hour & we will plan for more time in between stops for the guys to warm up.

This means our FRIDAY CUSTOMERS WILL BE PICKED UP ON THEIR REGULAR PICK UP DAY, just don't be surprised if they are later than what you're used to. If this plan changes, we will add an update to the top of this post.

Please DO NOT RISK INJURY to get your garbage out. Stay safe & warm!

Just a quick reminder that we will not be running routes Thursday 12/25/25 or Thursday 1/1/26 in observance of Christmas Day & New Years Day.

For those two weeks only if your regular pick up day is:

➡️ THURSDAY you will be picked up on FRIDAY 12/26/25 & FRIDAY 1/2/26

➡️ FRIDAY you will be picked up on SATURDAY 12/27/25 & SATURDAY 1/3/26

➡️ ALL OTHERS will be picked up on YOUR REGULAR PICK UP DAY

Due to the predicted snow storm Saturday 11/29/25 we will not be able to run our Friday route on Saturday as planned. If your regular pick up day is:

➡️ Friday, you will be picked up on Monday 12/1/25.

All other customers will be picked up on their regular pick up day next week.

Please be sure there is a clear path to your garbage, free of snow and any obstacles.

We will not be running a route Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2025. For that week only:

➡️ If your regular pick up day is Thursday, you will be picked up on Friday 11/28/25

➡️ If your regular pick up day is Friday, you will be picked up on Saturday 11/29/25

➡️ All other customers will be picked up on their regular pick up day

We need your help!!

There will be a discussion item on the agenda concerning how residential garbage & recycling services are provided in Marshalltown at the 10/27/25 City Council meeting.

No matter what garbage hauler you prefer, if you want to continue to have a choice, please contact those listed who will be discussing and ultimately voting on this. Politely let them know your thoughts before the meeting on 10/27 or if you can attend the meeting, come show your support! Council meets at 10 W State St, Marshalltown, at 5:30 PM.

You may have seen the garbage service survey that started circulating recently or the article by Robert Maharry that ran in the TR today about the garbage service study.

Area Sanitation submitted a lengthy statement for the article that we knew was way too long to be printed in it's entirety. We wanted to share our full response with you, our valued customers!

➡️ Clarification: The City of Marshalltown received $3,918,737.99 in the last 12 months from the State of Iowa Road Use Tax Fund, which we all pay into, not just from Area Sanitation

Due to the predicted blizzard Wednesday 3/5/25 the landfill will not be opening so we will not be able to run our regular route. For the rest of this week, all customers will be pushed back one day after their normal pick up day. Please be sure there is a clear path to your garbage.

IF YOUR REGULAR PICK UP DAY IS:

WEDNESDAY ➡️ you will be picked up Thursday, 3/6.

THURSDAY ➡️ you will be picked up Friday, 3/7.

FRIDAY ➡️ you will be picked up on Saturday 3/8.
