Today, beer is the most popular alcoholic drink world-wide, and is the second-most popular drink in general, ranking second only to tea.

In the chart below we see who the leading manufacturers of beer are. The United States comes up second on the list with a whopping 211,166,000 hectoliters of beer which is the equivalence of over 177 million barrels!

And in order for all those kegs to dispense that wonderful tasting beer, the beer needs to be passed through a draft system. A system that is up to date with maintenance and cleanings!

A properly cleaned and updated system will allow the beer to taste the way it was intended to from the brewers.

So keep your systems clean and if you are not sure how to do that, call Keg Techs today! Available Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, at (906)256-9119.

Any draft system requires pressurized gas to propel beer from the keg to the faucet. When this pressurized gas is pushed into the keg through the coupler, it forces the beer out into the beer line where it eventually travels up to the tap so you can pour a pint on demand!

There are three different types of draft systems for dispensing beer: remote glycol cooled, air-cooled, and direct draw. All of these share the same goal of dispensing the beer to deliver a perfect pour, glass after glass!

In a glycol cooled remote system, the beer in the keg is kept cold by the cold air in the walk-in cooler, while to beer in the lines and tower are kept cold by the lines of glycol running next to them. This system keeps the temperature of the beer consistent from keg to faucet. Of the three systems, remote glycol cooled is the most expensive.

Air-cooled systems are a type of system that use circulating cold air to keep the beer cool in the walk-in cooler, around the beer lines, and up to the faucets. This is the original system of chilling beer before glycol came. It is still viable and is the less expensive option for short-draw draft systems compared to glycol cooled systems.
The most common and most straightforward draft system for delivering beer from the keg to the tap across a short distance, is the direct draw system. This is the least expensive system option to use. It also has the added benefit of minimal beer waste due to the short length of the beer lines. Direct draw systems store the kegs in the same unit in which the beer will be dispensed. A prime example of direct draw would be a kegerator.

But for any system, maintenance and cleanings play a major roll in keeping your beer tasting how the brewers intended. So, if you need help deciding what system works best for your business or home, call Keg Techs today! Call (906)256-9119, we got answers!

𝐅𝐮𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐫!

Many of the ancient people worshiped gods or goddesses for beer. It was a huge part of their daily lives. Some even used beer as payment for work.

One of the oldest and most renowned of the beer gods was a goddess named Nankasi, Goddess of Brewing. The Sumerians, from the Mesopotamian region, which is now modern-day Iran, praised her. She is of particular importance not only because she was a female but because she appears around 4000 B.C., making her the oldest of the beer deities.

She not only gave beer to the world, but she also brewed beer for the Gods themselves. The earliest known written record of beer from the Sumerians was, The Hymn of Ninkasi. The hymn not only praised her, but it provided a recipe to make beer from barely bread and references different brewing techniques.

Every beer enthusiast wants to get the most out of their keg. But you may be wondering how long is this keg going to last? This can be complicated because it can vary on a few things. For example, the style of beer you have, your dispensing system, and the temperature that you store your keg at.

There is no definite rule for how long a keg of draft beer will stay fresh. This is true for craft beers because different styles of beer last longer than others. Good rule of thumb is that life for a keg of pasteurized beer is about 90-120 days and unpasteurized beer can last up to 45-60 days when stored in the proper temperature. A lot of import and domestic beers are pasteurized.

Pressurized beers will also stay fresher longer than non-pressurized beers. Each beer is different and storing your beer at the ideal temperature is important for its preservation.

Pressurized beers can stay fresh from three to six months. For non-pressurized beers, you can expect the keg to stay fresh approximately two months. Each beer is different and storing your beer at the ideal temperature is important for its preservation.

Why should you invest in a Kegerator?

There are many reasons why you should have a kegerator in your life. Off the top of our heads, beer is a good reason! Cold, crisp, and refreshing beer. Now that we got your attention, let us elaborate.

Kegerators are a huge convenience to people. Not only can you avoid driving, traffic, parking and paying for gas but there are no lines to stand in and it’s always pouring your favorite beer!

Another reason to buy a kegerator is to save money! For example, let’s say you go to the bar, one beer can range from $5-$12 depending on the beer. Your kegerator will cost you only about $2 a beer. The initial investment is higher but in the long run it pays for itself. For most people, that can happen within a year!

So not only does a kegerator make your life a bit better, more convenient, and definitely more delicious, it also pays for itself as fast as you can say “Cheers!”

Any questions about a kegerator, the size, the number of taps, anything, give our professionals a call today at (906)256-9119.

Why Cleaning Your Kegerator is Important?

The reason you should keep up on cleaning your kegerator is because it will keep your beer tasting pristine!

Cleaning your draft components is crucial. Failure to do so can lead to buildups of yeast, mold, and beer deposits in your lines and ultimately result in funky tasting beer.

If you’re using a draft system or kegerator at home, it is recommended that you clean your components after each keg. If you’re using your draft system in a restaurant or otherwise commercial setting, you’ll want to clean about every two to four weeks.

If you can’t fit in time for a cleaning, give Keg Techs a call to schedule your next cleaning! You can reach our technicians at (906)256-9119. We service the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin.

Another part of keeping your beer tasting refreshing is taking care of the keg couplers.

The keg coupler should be cleaned and brushed on the outside of the keg coupler every 2 weeks while cleaning beer lines and beer faucets. This will get rid of yeast mold, and other bacteria.

A common practice is to use StarSan which is an Acidic cleaner. Dip the coupler into the acid and scrub around the outside with a brush. A quick rinse of water after the scrubbing should do the trick.

Every 90 days the beer coupler should be completely broken down and cleaned thoroughly. Now if you cannot find the time, give Keg Techs a call at (906)256-9119 to schedule your cleaning.

𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: Why is it so important?

Nothing worse than sitting down to enjoy a nice cold brew, only to realize it doesn’t taste quite like your favorite beer. If anything tastes off or funky, raise an eyebrow.

Without regular maintenance and cleaning, beer lines get dirty fast. If the beer tastes stale or sour, this is a sign of dirty beer lines.

Line cleaning prevents the beer from becoming infected with bacteria and yeasts. Bacteria and yeasts can grow in the beer line and spoil the beer’s aroma. Yeast in the beer lines can create carbon dioxide, which causes foaming problems that increase beer
wastage and decrease your potential profits.

If you notice a little funk to your beer, call the professionals at (906)256-9119. Our technicians here at Keg Techs, LLC, will get that beer back to tasting the way the brewers intended!

𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞!

Easter beers were created for the fast during Lent, when, in the Middle Ages, the faithful had to abstain from eating for forty days. It was necessary to have beer that was stronger, thicker, and more nourishing than everyday beer.

Legend has it that the monks, to alleviate the pains of hunger that gripped them during those long weeks, and following Pope Pius V’s rule, liquids do not violate the fast, prepared rather full-bodied springtime beers. . . hence, the Easter Beers!

This tradition of preparing wort just in time for the Holy Week is something that continues to this day in many places in Europe.
So, if you enjoy beer, keep your eyes open for Easter Beer, get a taste of tradition!

Keg Techs LLC will be celebrating Easter this weekend, so we will be closed on Easter Monday. Have a wonderful holiday weekend! See you all Tuesday!
