Stainless steel appliances look beautiful… until fingerprints, water spots, and smudges show up everywhere.

So many people right here in Maquoketa ask me how to keep them looking clean without scratching or ruining that nice finish, so I felt the need to share my secrets!

Here are my favorite professional tips and tricks I’ve learned over 20+ years in the cleaning business:
✅ Microfiber towels are a must!
Always use a clean, dry microfiber cloth. ❓️Why? Regular towels or paper towels can leave tiny scratches over time because of their rough fibers. Microfiber is super soft and gently lifts dirt and fingerprints without damaging the brushed surface. Wipe with the grain (usually up and down) for streak-free results.
*I use microfiber towels for a variety of cleaning jobs throughout the home*

✅ A cheap and efficient vinegar solution is great for deep a lot of cleaning jobs.
-Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Lightly mist the appliance, wipe WITH the grain using your microfiber cloth, then dry immediately.
-Do this once a week (or every other week if they stay pretty clean).
❓️Why use vinegar? Because it cuts through grease, hard water spots, and built-up grime naturally without harsh chemicals that can etch or dull the finish. This non-chemical cleaner is not only cost effective, but most have it lying around.
*my go-to when I'm in a hurry around my home, I have a bottle ready; one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen.

✅ You will then finish with an olive oil for a lasting shine
-After cleaning and drying with your microfiber cloth, put just a tiny drop of olive oil or mineral oil on a FRESH microfiber cloth and buff lightly WITH the grain.
❓️Why do this? The thin layer creates a protective barrier that repels new fingerprints and smudges for days. Your appliances will stay looking showroom-new longer.
*My opinion olive oil outshines any commercial cleaner out there-make sure to use just enough, too much creates a greasy film but if you add the right amount and buff along the grain it will have that shine without the oily film*
