New liner. New steps. One well-timed project.

When a liner comes out, the pool's wide open. That makes it the right moment to deal with steps that have seen better days, instead of coming back to it two summers from now.

That's exactly what happened here. The old steps were built out from the pool. We swapped them for a clean new set built into the pool, then finished with a fresh liner over everything.

Happy Labor Day.

Here's something worth knowing about today. The very first Labor Day was back in 1882, when around 10,000 workers in New York City took an unpaid day off to march in the streets.

They gave up a day's pay to stand up for better conditions and a fair shake. It became a national holiday in 1894, and it's been the first Monday of September ever since.

The whole point of the day is simple. To honor the people who do the work.

So today, here's to everyone who works with their hands, shows up early, and takes pride in a job done right. Enjoy the day. You've earned it.

Even the ducks know a clean pool when they see one.

Water this clear takes more work to keep that way when it's hot out, and here's why. Heat and direct sun break chlorine down quickly. Warm water lets algae and bacteria grow faster. And a hot day usually means more swimmers, which burns through chlorine faster still.

Put it all together, and a pool that looked perfect one day can turn cloudy the next. If that happens to you in a heat wave, it's not a mistake on your end. It's just the weather working against your water, and staying ahead of it takes a little more attention.

National Dog Day was yesterday. Nobody told Sully, so we're celebrating today.

Officially, he's the Pool Girl's office assistant. Unofficially, his favorite part of the job is the ride in the van.

Here he is riding sh***un, ready to head out. Best passenger in the van, hands down.

Prepping a pool for a new liner comes with a few surprise coworkers.

These two turned up while we were getting the pool ready. We caught them, said hello, and set them back on their way.

The work itself is careful business. Getting a pool prepped right is what makes a new liner sit clean and last. But every now and then, the job hands you a good excuse to smile.
