Here’s a fun one for tonight. The first jack-o’-lanterns weren’t pumpkins at all. In Ireland, people carved faces into turnips to scare off wandering spirits. When Irish immigrants came to America, they found pumpkins growing here and made the switch.

Some pool closing myths are scarier than others.

Myth: A little water left in the lines won’t hurt anything.
Fact: Water expands about 9% when it freezes. That’s enough to crack a pump, a filter, or a pipe underground. That’s why we blow out the lines and add antifreeze.

Myth: Any antifreeze will do.
Fact: Not all antifreeze is the same. RV antifreeze is often alcohol-based, which can dry out the seals and gaskets in your equipment. We use antifreeze made for pools.

Myth: If the water’s clear when you close, it’ll be clear when you open.
Fact: Not guaranteed. The water sits all winter without moving. Closing chemicals help protect it until spring.
