This is a perfect example of why septic isn’t “just digging a hole.”

What you’re looking at is layered soil—different textures, densities, and permeability all stacked together. That bright orange band? That’s a restrictive layer. Water doesn’t move through it the same way it does the material above it.
And that matters.

Because a drain field isn’t just something you install—it’s something that has to work with the soil. If you don’t understand what you’re looking at, you end up with systems that fail, back up, or never function properly to begin with.

This is why experience, soil knowledge, and understanding the “why” behind what we do matters.
Anyone can run an excavator. Not everyone knows when they should stop digging.
If you’re choosing a septic contractor based on price alone… you might be paying for it twice.

This is one of the things I love about the septic industry, geology and hydrology.

Septic work is about a lot more than owning an excavator and following a product manufacturer’s manual. It’s about understanding why the soil behaves the way it does and how water moves through it.

That knowledge is critical when it comes to drain field repairs and replacements.

If you’re getting quotes and assuming the cheapest contractor is the same as the rest, you might want to think again.

If the person working on your system can’t explain what’s going on in this photo, you should probably call someone who can.

“My pleasure.” — but this time… it tested our faith.
Rolled up to pump a Chick-fil-A grease trap today and when we popped that lid…
I’m pretty sure the Holy Spirit said,
“Y’all on your own.” 😭
That grease wasn’t thick.
It was Old Testament thick.
Forty days and forty nights thick.
Part-the-Red-Sea-with-a-jetter thick.
The vacuum tried its best…
but even it looked at us like,
“This one needs prayer.”
So we fired up the jetter — because sometimes you don’t just pump grease…
you perform an exorcism. 💦🔥
Pre-blessed. Deeply anointed.
Probably closed on Sunday but that trap was working overtime all week.
Special equipment. Serious horsepower.
No waffle fries were harmed in the making of this miracle.
Another commercial grease trap saved.
Flow restored.
Faith slightly shaken.
If your grease trap is feeling a little too sanctified…

Monday and Tuesday, we attended the SC Onsite Wastewater Association (SCOWA) Conference in Myrtle Beach, where industry professionals from across the state came together to learn, network, and stay up to date on the latest onsite wastewater practices.

We believe that continuing education and staying current with new technology and regulations helps us provide the highest level of service to our customers.

Now we’re back and ready to get back to what we do best, serving our community and taking care of our customers’ septic needs!
