Looking back, I wonder now how I survived some of the hardest days-
When my entire world came crashing down and tried to sweep me under the waves of struggle…
But I stood strong, bending but never breaking..
Fighting but never surrendering..
Doubting but never quitting.
When I had every reason to give up, I never did.
I can’t tell you where that courage came from- I wonder myself how I came to become the person I am now..
Until I remember that I was made tougher, braver and fiercer by all the failure that I endured before.
Each time I was knocked down, I learned.
Every time I was broken into countless pieces, I put myself back together more whole.
And all the times I was lower than I had ever been before..
I looked up to find the light and began clawing my way out of rock bottom.
Yes, those were some of the toughest times I’ve ever known…
They made me look inwards in a way that I had never been forced to understand before-
Humbled and scarred, though, I refused to be reduced by the storms of life that threatened to push me under.
Instead, I grew.
I evolved.
I became stronger.
It’s been painful and hard- maybe the hardest thing I’ve ever known…
But it was necessary.
It was my path through my broken roads that led me right to where I was meant to be.
Don’t get me wrong-
I still have bad days and times when I can’t see the way forward…
But now I know that these, too, shall pass.
I’ll still get beaten up and kicked around..
But I’ll always get back up and keep fighting,
Keep showing up..
Keep going forward.
And each time that I emerge on the other side of the battles that test every part of me,
I gather myself,
Take a deep breath and remember…
That I’m blessed to still be standing.
Happy to be alive.
And determined to never doubt myself or the fact that I have far yet still to go.
One day, many days from now, I’ll look over the times of my life that will become my legacy and smile…
Knowing that I did more than just try,
But that I gave all..
And that, darling, has made all the difference.
That,I can say, has made me the person I am.
That I have been lost and broken- but I have fought through it all and that I have done, said and become all that I always knew that I could be.
My broken roads and fiery rebirth gave me the wings I never thought I could find.
And I’ve flown higher than I ever dreamed.
