Visual Artists Group is pleased to present Angle of Repose recent works by Cori Redstone. Angle of Repose is an examination of contemporary states of rest. In the quest to understand and create an ideal society, Redstone extrapolates on the science and cultural aptitude of rest through figurative paintings on canvas and aluminum panel commingling forms of new technology, organic imagery and ephemeral brush marks that constitute a complex but dream-like examination of modernity and rest.

ARTIST STATEMENT:


I am interested in repose as a radical action. Rest takes many forms. It can be both passive and active simultaneously and regenerative rest is essential to be effective agents of change.


Where is the place at which modern people can find stability and balance in fraught social and political climates without checking out of political discourse? Perhaps these tumultuous times are a rapid flow into states of rest and yet to be realized political frameworks if channeled properly.


Redemption may be found in both rebellion and deliberate, channeled rejuvenation.
