Greywater Corps

Greywater Corps save water. reduce carbon emissions. protect California's ecosystems. grow a beautiful garden.

Greywater is gently-used water from laundry, bathtubs, showers, and bathroom sinks that can be captured and used a second time instead of going down the drain. Used for irrigation it saves water, saves money, protects remote aquatic ecosystems, grows a beautiful and bountiful garden, recharges the local aquifer, and reduces loads on sewage and septic systems. Greywater Corps designs and installs r

esidential greywater systems, works with communities and non-profits to promote greywater use, and teaches hands-on workshops where you can learn how to install your own greywater system.

Metabolic Studio is an art collective working to bring water from the LA River to the city for the first time in over a century. There’s so much mind-blowing art meets engineering meets traditional knowledge going on over there, but as the proud rain tank nerds that we are, the 360,000 gallons of cistern storage have a special place in our hearts. Huge thanks to Alex for the tour!

The Hoover Dam (1936) was emblematic of the 20th century belief that nature would be dominated through technology, one of tens of thousands of dams built in the US in the 1900s. Today we work to undo some of the harm done by these projects with a more localized approach to water.

1. The dam near completion.
2. Massive caissons were gradually filled with concrete to form the main structure.
3. Logs pile up against the dam as the newly created Lake Mead fills up behind it.
4+5. Colorado River Valley before and after Lake Mead.
6. Surveying the site of the dam on the Colorado River.

8,000 gallons of underground water storage in 40 seconds! This tank is set up to harvest rainwater for irrigation, but the same tanks can be used for firefighting and other emergencies. Join GWC Principal Leigh Jerrard on January 29th at 12:30pm for a special Q&A session for architects and contractors about our fire protection systems and dedicated tanks. Email [email protected] to RSVP.

Did you know that we are the only approved distributor of Den Hartog tanks in Los Angeles? Wow! What does that even mean? Den Hartog Industries is a family owned business that makes quality, affordable water storage tanks, so you know you’re not paying a premium to the mega corps that run Big Tank.

DHI tanks range from 130 up to 2,050 gallons and offer the most competitive prices on the market. They come in green and black, but we can source many more sizes and colors, just ask us! Ideal for irrigation, firefighting and emergency water storage. Check out our catalog on our website for more info or just DM us.

It's always a joy to be able to share solutions to water capture and recycling. The piece explores the importance of understanding that greywater isn't wastewater and irrigation doesn't need to be complicated. Through passive, low-tech systems, we create permanent solutions that reduce wildfire impacts and restore coexistence with natural water cycles.

Most people think rainwater tanks are just about being eco-friendly (which is great!) but they're actually solving even more problems for Los Angeles homeowners. Here are five things rainwater storage does for your home:

1. Stops soil erosion from washing away your yard every winter
2. Helps to prevent drainage issues that could effect your foundation
3. Gives you backup water in case the city water supply is out (and increases your self-sufficiency)
4. Keeps your garden lush and green even in the 100-degree summers
5. And of course, saves gallons (and dollars) in the long run.

It's not just great for the environment, it's great for your home too!

This caterpillar has no idea they're munching on a plant watered by someone's laundry, and honestly? That's beautiful. We're not going to tell them.

Greywater systems support the whole ecosystem. They make it EASY to keep your plants alive, which means more habitat for butterflies, bees, and birds.

🎉 It's MULCH LOVE MONDAY 🎉
Some people get excited about fancy tech. We get excited about...decomposing wood chips. You should get excited too! Mulch is a necessary component of greywater systems, absorbing and infiltrating greywater into the ground.

This humble pile of organic matter:
-Keeps your soil moist
-Protects plant roots from LA's brutal summer heat
-Suppresses weeds without harmful chemicals
-Looks way better than bare dirt
-Breaks down into free nutrients

Basically, you can't have too mulch of a good thing.
