Yes, washing off paint brushes in the yard might kill some grass temporarily which is exactly why painters should not wash their brushes in the sink. Do you want this in your septic tank ? Grass grows back.

Check the flow before you go. Customer called this morning (Wednesday). Had been out of town on vacation since Saturday. Said neighbor called him and told him his system was alarming with a high level alarm. Fortunately for him, his really good neighbor was able to go inside his house and found a running commode. Even with no one there using water since Saturday, the system went into high level from one running toilet. It happens more than you think.

Don’t overload the commode! Flushing non-biodegradable items like diapers & wipes will clog pumps like this one we found yesterday. Toilet paper is the only thing that should be flushed into a septic system.

Roots can enter the drain field through the perforated pipe designed to allow liquids to seep.

If drain field pipes become so filled with roots that liquids cannot flow through the pipe or out of the perforations, the system will no longer function and the pipes usually will need to be replaced, or a whole new system may be required.

What do you do with your brush after you have finished painting? The answer shouldn’t be washing it in your sink. If you are hiring painters, make sure that they are not cleaning paint brushes into your septic system.
Paint can wreak havoc on a septic system. Paint is made to bind to the surfaces it touches. The binder in paint is made from many different chemicals—none of which are good for a septic system. The worst part of this, however, is the fact that binders are usually made of polymers, which are a type of plastic.
The binder in paint can stick to surfaces in the drain, the pipes, the septic system tanks and parts, and even parts of the drainfield. This can build up and lead to slower drains or even blockages in the pipes. This is an especially serious problem if it happens in the treatment unit or dispersal area.
