Those large black ants 🐜 you see around your house are carpenter ants. In nature these ants are actually beneficial. They help decompose dead, dying, blown down trees, branches, etc. as the ones in the attached pics are doing. These pics were taken yesterday on the walking trail in Lisbon. In this environment the ants should be left to go about there natural business, but in or nearby around your home they can be causing damage. Don’t let carpenter ants 🐜 make your house their home. Nothing to panic about, but it is worthwhile to be aware of a species of tick that isn’t common in Maine but that is occasionally found here that you should be aware of. Alpha gal which is transmitted by the Lone Star tick can cause severe allergic reactions to red meat. Ticks are a serious issue in Maine. It’s important to be educated and aware of ways to protect your family’s and pets from potential tick borne illnesses. If you have questions or concerns with ticks I’d be glad to help you. Not being political in any manner, but again we need to remember why we celebrate Memorial Day. It’s not just about opening camps and having BBQs with our families and friends. If it wasn’t for those who gave some, and more so for those who gave all we wouldn’t have the freedom to celebrate this holiday as we do in this great country. Conservative, liberal or whatever you views are it really doesn’t matter, regardless of how hard times may seem to be in our country today, we still live in the land of the free because of the brave.

I'm working on building a website, which I will add this certification to. I wanted to post it here as well. According to the ESA ( Entomological Society of America) roster this morning, I am one of only four people in the State of Maine to achieve this certification and was the first one in Maine to earn it, way back in 2008 when this program was first launched.
