🚨 September is National Preparedness Month!
When we think about being prepared, we usually think about storms, power outages, food, water, flashlights, and emergency supplies.

But what about your septic system? 🧐
A septic problem probably isn't on most people's emergency preparedness checklist — until it becomes one. 😂

Here are a few things every septic homeowner should know:
🟦 Know where your septic tank is located. You don't want to be searching for a buried tank when you need it most.
🟦 Know when your tank was last pumped. Regular pumping and maintenance can help prevent an emergency when you least expect it.
🟦 Know where your drainfield is. Keep vehicles, heavy equipment, and other loads off of it.
🟦 Have a pump system? Have a plan for a power outage. Some septic systems rely on electricity to pump wastewater. A properly sized backup generator can help keep the system operating during an extended outage.
🟦 Know where your septic alarm is and pay attention to it. If the alarm goes off, especially during a power outage, limit water use until the system can be checked or power is restored.
🟦 Know where your electrical components are. Pumps and other septic equipment may require electricity, so knowing how your system operates can make a big difference during an emergency.
🟦 Have a plan to conserve water. If your system isn't operating normally, cutting back on showers, laundry, dishes, and unnecessary flushing can help keep your tank from filling up.

⚠️ SEPTIC SCAM WARNING — PLEASE READ

We want to make our customers aware of a scam we are seeing involving septic pumping.
In some cases, scammers are contacting homeowners claiming to be a septic company and collecting payment from the customer upfront. They then turn around and schedule the actual pumping with a legitimate local septic company.

The legitimate septic company shows up, performs the work, and later discovers that the payment the homeowner made went to someone else. The homeowner may think they have already paid, while the septic company is left trying to collect payment for the work.
We recently received an unsolicited message from someone claiming to represent a septic company that we were unable to independently verify.

Please protect yourself:
• Verify the company before sending payment.
• Look for a legitimate website, business address, and established local presence.
• Call the septic company directly using a number you independently find.
• Be cautious of unsolicited texts offering unusually low prices or asking for payment before service.
• Make sure you know exactly who will be performing the work and who your payment is going to.

If you receive a suspicious septic-service message, feel free to contact B&B Septic before sending money or scheduling work.
