If there's a fox den near your neighborhood, the kits are starting to hunt this week. It looks nothing like hunting.

At six to seven weeks old, a fox kit's first prey is an insect. A beetle crossing the dirt outside the den. A grasshopper in the grass. The kit crouches, wiggles, and pounces — often missing entirely, sometimes landing on its own sibling instead of the beetle.

The pounce is instinctive. The accuracy is learned. Over the next few weeks, the success rate improves from nearly zero to something respectable. The mother watches from a few yards away and doesn't intervene. She brought live mice to the den entrance last week. The kits batted them around but didn't know what to do. That changes this month.

🐾 What you might see at dusk this week:

- Two to five kits outside a den entrance in the last hour of daylight — playing, wrestling, pouncing on everything that moves
- The mother sitting at a distance, alert but not participating. She's watching for threats, not teaching technique
- The father may not be visible — he's often hunting elsewhere and delivering food after dark
- If the kits see you, they may freeze and stare. They haven't learned fear yet

Watch from a distance and let the pouncing continue.

The kits are clumsy, fearless, and working on their aim. In two months they'll be catching mice on their own 🌿

Another satisfied customer. In less than 24 hours we have caught this shed loving groundhog. This groundhog was also a little camera shy like there would be 6 more weeks of winter if he smiled.

Groundhogs also no problem! This is our second groundhog from a small shed. Groundhogs might look harmless, but the damage they can cause around your home or property is anything but.

As a nuisance wildlife trapper, I regularly see the effects of their burrowing firsthand. Groundhogs dig extensive tunnel systems that can undermine foundations, concrete slabs, patios, sheds, and driveways. These hidden voids can lead to sinking, cracking, and costly structural repairs if left unchecked.

They also tend to burrow under decks, porches, and outbuildings, creating instability and attracting other unwanted wildlife. In some cases, their digging can even damage septic systems or create hazards for livestock and equipment.

If you’re noticing holes near structures, soft ground, or signs of settling, it’s worth having it looked at sooner rather than later.

If you have questions or think you might have groundhog activity on your property, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to help assess the situation and recommend the best course of action.

Skunks, skunks and more skunks. Peek breading!!!

So what do we do. We set live traps in the travel paths and areas skunks are visiting. Don’t worry they typically don’t spray when being trapped. Safe removal can happen after dark or by placing a blanket over top of trap to allow for complete darkness. Since they do not feel threatened they can be removed with no “stink” in your yard.

What do we do. We will setup trail cameras to monitor the critters causing you issues. Raccoons are target species for most as they can destroy barns. Crops and chicken coops. Starting at $40 depending on distance.
