Black History Month✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
Did you know???
Thomas W. Stewart was an African American inventor whose work left a lasting impact on both the cleaning industry and the Black community. In 1893, he patented an improved mop with a wringing mechanism and detachable head. Innovation that made cleaning more sanitary, efficient, and safer. During a time when Black inventors faced immense barriers and rarely received recognition, Stewart’s ingenuity still found a way to change everyday life.
His contribution is especially meaningful because cleaning has long been work carried by our community, often undervalued, yet essential. Stewart didn’t just create a tool, he elevated the labor, dignity, and practicality of an industry that continues to provide opportunity, stability, and entrepreneurship for so many of us today.
As someone in the cleaning industry, I see this as more than history, it’s LEGACY. God places purpose in our hands, even in work the world may overlook. Thomas W. Stewart’s life reminds us that Black excellence has always been present, ordained, and impactful. Our work matters!!! Our ideas matter!!! And our history deserves to be honored!!!!
