At Penny’s Pool Service, we’ve recently seen several pools that would not clear up despite proper chemical balance and routine maintenance. In both cases, the cause was extremely high phosphate levels.

One of the most common sources of phosphates is crape myrtle trees. Their blooms, leaves, and organic debris can introduce large amounts of phosphates into the water, which feed algae and make it very difficult to maintain a clear, healthy pool.

When phosphate levels become excessive, additional treatment is required. This typically includes:

* Applying a phosphate remover.
* Cleaning the pool filter after treatment.
* Performing a second phosphate treatment if necessary.
* Returning to vacuum the pool to remove the dead phosphate residue and debris.

Unfortunately, this process requires additional products, labor, and follow-up visits, which results in an extra service

This pool is across the street from my home , The renter has lived there for two months .. We plastered this pool take care of this pool for the owners of the home ( they use to live in it) The renter said we haven’t been there in 3 weeks . Pool owners you don’t even have to be professional for this question . Does it look like we haven’t been there in 3 weeks ?

At the end of the day the home owner knows us and has for many moons are kids have grown up together .

A customer recently contacted us regarding black mold growing on their plaster pool, despite having perfect water chemistry based on a water sample. However, the issue is actually black algae, which can be addressed in two ways. The first option involves power washing the top layer of the pool to remove the algae, cleaning the filter, and applying a black algicide. The second option is to replaster the pool, which would eradicate the algae permanently. The customer opted for the first solution. Although this method won't completely eliminate the black algae, maintaining proper chemical levels, particularly a lower pH to keep chlorine levels effective, will help control its return. We have documented the process with before and after pictures. Proper chemistry is crucial in the pool industry, and having taken a water chemistry class has been beneficial. Through experience, I've also gained significant knowledge about chemistry. The goal is to achieve a blue or white pool, but nature tends to turn them into ponds, which is the natural course.
