Heyy!!
This September, I’m participating in the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Walk, and I’ve decided to make su***de prevention and mental health something I want to be more intentional about supporting. One of the things that has really shaped the way I think about this is my work.
As a housekeeper, I spend a lot of time inside people’s homes. I get to see little pieces of people’s everyday lives that most people never see. I’ve been welcomed into homes during some really beautiful seasons of life, but also during times when people are overwhelmed, exhausted, grieving, struggling, or simply trying to keep their head above water. And it has taught me something. You really never know what someone is carrying.
Sometimes a home is messy. Sometimes someone is exhausted. Sometimes they haven’t been able to keep up with things they normally would. I’ve learned not to judge those things. Instead, I’ve learned how meaningful it can be to simply show up, help where I can, and treat people with a little extra kindness.
That’s a big part of why I wanted to do this walk. Mental health deserves to be talked about without shame, and I want to help create a world where people feel comfortable saying “I’m not okay” and asking for help before they reach their breaking point.
I’m hoping to raise $250 ( & hopefully more🤞) for the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention. If you’re able to donate it would mean so much to me. If you can’t donate, sharing this post or checking in on someone you love is just as meaningful.
You never know what someone is going through behind closed doors. Be kind. Check in. Show up. 🩵
