Color-safe bleach is useful if you need to whiten or lighten up an item that cannot be bleached with chlorine bleach, that has a stain that’s out of the ordinary on it (you spilled red wine, fruit juice, blood, or something colored), or that has been run though the wash but a stain did not come out. Use it as an additive only if you need it. For normal laundry, a good detergent is sufficient.

Do you use the permanent press setting on your washer? If you don't, you should. Wash permanent-press shirts with all-purpose detergent on the permanent-press setting, which is gentler than the regular one, uses warm or hot water, and has a long cool-down rinse to further minimize wrinkling. Opt for the dryer’s permanent-press feature, which has a cool-down period at the end. Wash non-permanent-press shirts on the regular cycle in cold or warm water.

If you find your side loading washer has a moldy smell, it's because it's not drying out properly. Add a cup of vinegar and run it on empty for a cycle and open the washer door to let it air out.

If you find your new washer has too much suds after a wash, it's because you're using too much detergent. Use less or switch to a detergent designed for high efficiency washers, which don't create as much suds. Of course the best wash to get suds out of your washer is to toss in some fabric softener and put it on the rinse cycle.
