🦉🦊🦌Happy National Wildlife Day!🦅🐿
Today we’re celebrating the incredible wildlife that makes our communities, forests, fields, and backyards so special. 🌿
From the smallest songbird to the animals we sometimes find a little too close to home, every species plays an important role in our ecosystem. 🌎💚
At McCoy Wildlife, we’re proud to help people and wildlife coexist safely. Because protecting wildlife doesn’t always mean keeping them far away but it means understanding them, respecting their role, and knowing how to handle wildlife encounters responsibly.
Here’s to the wild neighbors we share our world with! 🐾

What’s Happening in Wildlife This Month?
As the temperatures begin to cool, wildlife is preparing for the colder months ahead. Animals like raccoons, squirrels, bats, opossums, and other wildlife may start looking for warm, protected places to shelter—including your attic, chimney, crawl space, or other areas of your home.

September is a great time to check your home for potential entry points.
Look for:
• Gaps around vents and rooflines
• Damaged soffits or fascia
• Openings around chimneys
• Loose or missing screens
• Holes near crawl spaces

Taking care of these openings now can help prevent an unwanted houseguest when winter arrives!

Hurricane-force winds and severe storms have caused power outages and widespread damage across our community. Times like this remind us how resilient and tight-knit LaPorte County is. Please check in on elderly neighbors, families with young children, and anyone who may need extra support in the next few days as many of us are without power, food, water, shelter, and other vital supplies.

We will get through this together. Stay safe, hang in there, and take care of one another! ❤️

🦝 It's Raccoon Kit Season!🦝
Have you been spotting more raccoons around your property lately? You're not alone!
Late spring and early summer are peak times for raccoons to raise their kits. During this time, female raccoons are busy searching for safe, sheltered places to care for their young and unfortunately, attics, chimneys, sheds, and crawl spaces often make the perfect nursery.

A few things to keep in mind:
🐾 Seeing a raccoon out during the day doesn't automatically mean it's sick. Raccoons often venture out during daylight hours to find food for their growing kits.
🐾 If you hear scratching, thumping, or chattering noises in your attic, there may be a raccoon family nearby.
🐾 Never attempt to remove a mother raccoon or her kits yourself. Separating them can create bigger problems and may leave young animals stranded.

If you suspect raccoons have moved into your home or outbuilding, it's best to have the situation professionally inspected to ensure the animals can be removed safely.
