Not Your Ordinary Clock!

Now THIS is a conversation piece! 😍

This beautiful ball bearing clock combines old-world elegance with a fascinating mechanical design. Instead of simply telling time, it uses steel balls as part of its unique operating mechanism — all housed in a gorgeous glass-and-wood case with ornate gold detailing.

And can we talk about that lion on top? 🦁 It definitely makes a statement!

These are the kinds of clocks we love seeing at Great Escapements Clock Repair — unusual, mechanical, and just plain fun to watch.

✨ Beautiful wood case
⚙️ Fascinating mechanical movement
🔮 Ball-bearing mechanism
🦁 Ornate lion topper
🕰️ Definitely NOT your everyday mantel clock!

Have you ever seen a ball bearing clock before?
Drop a YES or NO in the comments — we’re curious how many people know what these are!

Dutch wall clocks are hard to miss—and that’s exactly the point! With their ornate cases, beautiful dials and distinctive old-world style, these clocks were designed to be both timekeepers and showpieces.

✨ 3 Fun Facts:
• Many traditional Dutch clocks feature decorative brass details and painted dials.
• Some include moving figures, moon-phase dials or other animated features.
• Their distinctive style makes them highly collectible today.

And remember—these beautiful old clocks need the right care to keep ticking for generations. 🔧

Not All Clock Repairs Are Created Equal!

The first photo shows what can happen when a clock is repaired with a quick fix instead of the proper repair. It may get the clock running temporarily, but an improper repair can create bigger—and more expensive—problems down the road.

The second photo shows the difference experience makes. Jason carefully removed the previous repair and corrected it properly, restoring the movement the way it should have been done in the first place.

When you’re trusting someone with an antique, heirloom, or treasured clock, experience matters. Great Escapements Clock Repair focuses on doing the job correctly—not just getting the clock ticking again.

🕰️ 3 THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER DO TO YOUR CLOCK! 🕰️

Love your clock? Here are 3 things that can cause costly damage—and they’re easier to do than you might think!

🚫 1. NEVER use spray lubricants on your clock.
Products like WD-40 and other spray lubricants don’t belong in a clock movement. They can spread where they shouldn’t, collect dirt and grime, and create bigger problems down the road. Clock movements require the proper clock oil applied in the proper places.

🚫 2. NEVER move a clock with the pendulum attached.
Before moving a pendulum clock—even across the room—remove the pendulum first. Leaving it attached can damage delicate parts of the movement or suspension.

🚫 3. NEVER turn the minute hand backward through the chime points.
While some newer clocks are designed to tolerate this, many older clocks are not. Moving the minute hand backward through the chime or strike points can damage the mechanism. When in doubt, move the minute hand clockwise and allow the clock to finish chiming before continuing.

🌙🕰️ Did You Know?

That beautiful moon dial on a grandfather clock isn’t just decorative! It tracks the moon’s 29½-day cycle, showing its journey from new moon to full moon and back again.

It’s one of those wonderful details that makes a grandfather clock so much more than a timepiece. ❤️

It’s the little things that make the biggest difference. When we service your grandfather clock, we wear gloves. Why? Because fingerprints can etch into the finish of the brass weights over time. We treat every clock like it’s our own, so your clock looks as beautiful as it runs. Details matter / that’s the Great Escapement way.
