🚨 Carbon Monoxide Alarms & Cold Weather Safety 🚨

With the cold weather, the frequency of carbon monoxide (CO) calls has spiked! Furnaces, boilers, space heaters, fireplaces, and generators are working harder, and that increases the risk of dangerous CO buildup.

If your carbon monoxide detector activates, treat it as a life-threatening emergency:

✅ Get everyone outside immediately
• Move to fresh air outdoors
• Take pets with you
• Do not delay evacuation

📞 Call 911 or your local fire department from outside
• Stay out until firefighters say it’s safe to re-enter

🚫 Do NOT delay your exit by ventilating the building
• Do not open windows or doors
• Do not silence the alarm

👉 Ventilating can mask the problem and makes it more difficult for firefighters to determine whether the alarm is from a malfunctioning detector or a true carbon monoxide condition

🤕 If anyone feels symptoms (headache, dizziness, nausea, chest pain, confusion):
• Tell dispatch immediately
• EMS evaluation is necessary

❓Why CO detectors matter
Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and deadly. You will not see or smell it. Your CO detector may be the only warning you get.

✔️ Have working CO detectors on every level of your home and near sleeping areas
✔️ Replace detectors according to manufacturer guidelines (typically 5–10 years)
