Today is a special day for me personally and professionally.

I’d like to introduce everyone to Joe Crayton, the newest Pest Management Professional at Florida Pestworx.

Joe and I have been best friends for more than 30 years. We grew up together and worked some of our very first jobs side by side. Looking back, I can honestly say Joe helped shape the work ethic that I carry with me today. We learned early on that if you work hard, work smart, take pride in your craft, and look out for the people beside you, good things tend to follow.

What I’ve always admired most about Joe is his servant heart. He genuinely cares about people and is the kind of person who will quietly step in to help without ever asking for recognition. Those qualities matter in this industry because taking care of customers starts with caring about people.

Outside of work, Joe is a devoted animal lover. His dog Luna and his two cats are a huge part of his life, and anyone who knows Joe knows how much they mean to him.

Fresh from the Wild and Wonderful State of West Virginia, Joe has made the move to Florida and joined the Florida Pestworx family. After three decades of friendship, it’s pretty special to have him standing alongside me as we continue building something we’re proud of.

Please join me in welcoming Joe Crayton to the team. We’re excited to have him here and even more excited for the families and businesses he’ll be serving throughout our community.

Florida is home to more than 900 species of spiders, and the overwhelming majority are harmless and beneficial predators that help reduce mosquitoes, flies, moths, and other nuisance insects around homes.

Many homeowners in Lakeland, Bartow, and Mulberry are familiar with black widows, but very few realize how common brown widow spiders have become throughout Polk County. At Florida Pestworx, we now encounter brown widows far more often than black widows during inspections and exterior treatments.

Brown widows commonly establish around patio furniture, soffits, garages, storage areas, flower pots, and exterior voids where insect activity is high.

At Florida Pestworx, we specialize in assessment based pest management, helping homeowners identify conducive conditions that allow spiders and insects to thrive around a structure rather than simply “spraying and praying.”

Subterranean termites and the invasive Formosan termite (Coptotermes formosanus) can quietly destroy a home from underneath long before a homeowner ever sees the warning signs. In this case, a termite swarm revealed active termite pressure beneath this manufactured home after colonies had already begun damaging flooring and structural wood components.

Many homeowners are shocked to learn that termites can travel through tiny expansion gaps, cracks, and hidden voids to gain access inside a structure. Formosan termites are especially aggressive due to their massive colony size, often containing hundreds of thousands to millions of termites capable of causing significant structural damage in a relatively short period of time.

This is one of the reasons many homeowners choose the Trelona ATBS Annual Baiting System as part of their termite protection plan. Trelona stations are strategically installed around the structure to intercept foraging termites in the soil before colonies continue spreading toward the home. The system is designed to target the colony itself through termite feeding activity, helping reduce hidden termite pressure around the structure over time.

At Florida Pestworx, we specialize in assessment based pest management and termite inspections throughout Lakeland, Bartow & Mulberry, helping homeowners identify conducive conditions and choose the right protection plan before hidden termite damage becomes a major repair.

Think block homes are safe from termites? Think again.

One of the biggest myths in Florida is that termites cannot invade concrete block homes. The reality is they enter through expansion joints, plumbing penetrations, slab cracks, garage slabs, and hidden areas behind walls every single day across Lakeland and Polk County.

In this garage, termites have already started feeding on construction materials and baseboards from inside the structure. Most homeowners never see the activity until damage is already happening behind the scenes.

At Florida Pestworx, we offer both liquid termite treatments and advanced termite baiting systems like Trelona ATBS. More importantly, we help homeowners understand what actually makes sense for their property through our Assessment Based Pest Management approach.

Every structure is different. Every moisture issue is different. Every termite risk is different.

Lakeland homeowners, this is what termite season looks like behind the scenes. These are real termite samples collected over just the last few days across Lakeland, Mulberry, Bartow, Plant City, and surrounding Polk County areas. Right now we are seeing heavy subterranean termite activity including Formosan termite swarms around lights, windows, garages, bathrooms, and pool areas.

At Florida Pestworx we don’t just “spray and pray.” We identify the exact termite species under the microscope and build an assessment based termite protection plan around your property.

If you’ve noticed flying termites, discarded wings, mud tubes, or swarmers around your home, now is the time to get ahead of it before damage starts.

“Decades of monitoring data show the spread is accelerating, with the Asian subterranean termite moving steadily north and the Formosan termite now established in most coastal counties and major urban centers, potentially putting all of Florida at risk by mid-century,”

A recent study shows that two destructive termites are spreading much farther throughout the state than experts initially predicted.
