Changes to the Pool Industry that will affect you.

Aside from the post-Covid impacts and the dramatic inflationary effects on the costs of monthly maintenance, here's what's on the horizon:

1. Incandescent light fixtures will no longer be produced. A failed light fixture will leave you with the sole choice of an LED replacement. You will still be able to replace a burned out incandescent bulb, but not a failed incandescent fixture.

2. Single phase pool motors (motors which run at one constant speed) will no longer be produced. A failed pool motor will leave you with the choice of only a 2-speed, or a variable speed motor replacement.

3. This dovetails from #2. Most variable speed motors will be produced without a control panel. Which means that an automated control panel will be needed to replace the standard mechanical time clock. This ostensively means that if you need to install a variable speed pump, then you'll also require an automated control system to run it.

Thses changes have been authored by the percieved need to be more energy efficient. And they are more energy efficient!

I'm making this post to inform you of the impending changes which will call for the need for you to increase your pool maintenance budgets. Yes, your LED lights and your variable speed motors will be saving you in monthly operating costs, but the cost for repairs is going to be far greater.

Just a few helpful hints for your pool care should you be concerned about rising pool water levels.

The best possible outcome for your pool during a hurricane event is to do nothing.

Nothing. Seriously, nothing.

1. Don't lower the pool water level...that only creates more space for contaminated rain water to fill the pool and allow it to turn green.
2. Don't put anything into the pool to prevent those items from becoming projectiles. Put them in the garage or tie them down. In a pool during high winds? Whatever is in the pool is shaken around by the wind generated waves like a martini shaker. Which will damage both the pool and those items.
3. Don't worry about the pool equipment. It was designed to be outside in the elements.

If anything, it may be prudent to turn off the breaker to the pool equipment, particularly if a power outage is eminent. This strategy will allow you to be in control of re-electrifying the pool equipment rather than being powered up when FPL restores your power. If your equipment is wet or in standing water, being electrified will likely destroy the motor. After the storm passes, make sure the equipment pad is dry and then safely turn the pool equipment breaker back on.

Best of luck, please comment or call with any questions.

It may be time to consider converting your pool to a natural salt chlorine conversion system.
If for no other reason? We may run out of chlorine this summer.
Literally. There may be no chlorine!!

So far, we unaware of a salt shortage.

Most pools can be converted for under $1,500.00

Call the office at 561-969-7590, or reach out to Ron on his cell at 561-294-6573.

The worst chlorine shortage the country has ever seen is set to rock this summer's pool season.
