🏠💨 Community Note: Protecting Lake Park Homes from Smoke & Ash
With the active wildfires in our neighboring counties, many in Lake Park have noticed haze and falling ash. Your health and indoor air quality are top of mind.
Here is some helpful info on how to manage ash safely:
➡️ Skip the Leaf Blower: Avoid using blowers or dry brooms on porches or driveways. This kicks fine, toxic particles back into the air where they can be inhaled.
➡️ Use "Wet" Cleaning Methods: Indoors and out, use damp cloths and wet mops. This "traps" the ash so it can be wiped away rather than spread.
➡️ Seal Your Spaces: Keep windows and doors tightly closed. If you have central air, set it to "recirculate" to avoid pulling in smoky outside air.
➡️ Check Your HVAC Filter: Ash can clog filters quickly during these conditions. If yours looks gray or dark, it may be time for a fresh one.
➡️ Safety First Always: If you are cleaning up a significant amount of ash, experts recommend wearing an N95 mask and gloves to protect your lungs and skin.
Stay safe, Lake Park! 🙏🏾 For updates, follow Lowndes and Echols County EMA for local alerts.
