Thinking about when to drain and refill your pool here in Lake Havasu?
Our extreme desert heat and hard water make it a key part of keeping your pool balanced and protecting its surfaces.
Most Lake Havasu pools benefit from a full drain and refill every 2–3 years (or sooner if TDS, calcium hardness, or CYA levels climb too high, regular testing tells the story). This resets water chemistry, prevents scaling, cloudy water, and potential damage to plaster or equipment from mineral buildup.
Timing matters in our climate: Avoid summer at all costs since the intense sun and dry air can crack plaster if the pool sits empty too long. The best window is fall through early spring (October to February/March), when cooler temps reduce risks and evaporation is lower.
A quick note on Lake Havasu City rules: Always follow the priority order: drain onto your own property first if possible, then to an adjacent wash, or to the sewer (call 928-855-3999 at least 72 hours ahead for approval and flow limits). Street draining is last resort, only with de-chlorinated water and typically at night.
