I’ve been getting lots of texts and calls so figured I’d do a public service announcement. We are in the start of Formosan termite swarm season (their mating season). Here are a couple points for informational purposes. The winged termites don’t have mouth parts to chew the wood themselves and as such, aren’t much more than a nuisance. They are a sign though that a colony of the destructive pests are near enough to make it to your structure. They are attracted to lights so turning off outside lights on the house will help make your house less of a landing zone. I’ve added a few pictures to maybe help you see what they look like swarming on the outside and what they look like after they land and break off their wings.

We are once again in the middle of Formosan swarm season. After every rain cycle the increased humidity will trigger swarms at or after dark. This is what you will see flying around lights on the outside. I always recommend turning outside lights off at night when the swarms start which will help with the amount of dead ones you have to sweep up inside. Of course if you think you have them active on your home we can inspect it and give an estimate for treatment

Been coming across a few posts of people spotting a new red/ black ant so figured I’d do another PSA. This red black velvet ant looking bug is actually a female wingless wasp. It has a long retractable stinger and super bad venom. Can cause very bad blistering/swelling wherever it stings. Watch so your kids do not pick it up. Best thing to do if found near or in your home is to spray it or kill it. Obviously if found outdoors let it live and avoid it

Parents if you see this cute cuddly looking furry caterpillar around the house spray it or kill it fast. Do not let your kids/pets get around them. In the first pic you can see it looks furry and harmless but once I sprayed it you can see the barbs that it shoots into whatever grabs it and it’s very dangerous. It’s called an Asp caterpillar and can lead to an emergency room visit.

As if 2020 needed to get any more Apocalyptic. Right on the heels of this Asian respiratory bug we find out there may also be another Asian invader, this one called a Murder Hornet of all things.

Sightings of the Asian giant hornet have prompted fears that the vicious insect could establish itself in the United States and devastate bee populations.
