A reminder to homeowners, Know your septic systems! Our guy is on a job that paid someone else last week to pump their septic tank. There is no evidence that the tank was pumped. Our guy had been on this property 25 years ago & knows where the tank is located. Lid needs to be uncovered by digging to open lid. Yard is intact, no signs of digging ! It frustrates us to see companies do this, especially to elderly people! We have been on jobs that paid someone to pump tank and they pumped out sewer line, not the tank. To get the waste out of tank, you must go through tank lid to pump it. PSA!

Springtime means cleaning time. Don’t overlook your septic system. It may be time to pump out your septic tanks. How often do tanks need to be pumped out?? It’s based on several issues: type of system, size of tanks, and number of people in the household. Conventional systems normally should be pumped every three years. Larger tanks can go longer. The more people in household will shorten length of time between pumping. Systems with electrical components and a pump motor, normally need to be pumped every two years. If you’re thinking of purchasing a home that has a septic system on it, we advise you to get a Septic Inspection on it. Request the County permit copy from the seller which will tell the components of the system, have a diagram of the system to determine its location on the property, and show it is a licensed system. If they can’t provide them, request that info from County Environmental Health Department. Also, request proof of the last time the system was pumped out. We will review this paperwork at inspection time.
When we do inspections, we will open the lids of the tank to get information about its working condition. We want the tank to be pumped next (while we are there) to enable us to check interior condition of tanks and it’s components. Our Inspection Report will tell you if the system is working properly or if it needs repairs.
Usually, The seller will pay for the pumping expense, the buyer pays for the Inspection expense. It is to be worked out between the parties before we arrive at job site. We request payment before we leave the job site or release the Inspection Report. We can do both pumping and Inspection.
