Air-to-water heat pumps are all the rage, and for good reason. They’re a great, energy efficient source of heat (and sometimes cooling) when properly installed in a correctly designed system. “Proper” and “correct” are the key words here. Technicians who install and service these piece of equipment need to be trained extensively on the specific units they’re dealing with. While heat pumps offer some advantages, they certainly have their limitations. If the system demands more than a heat pump can deliver, the result will be high energy expenses and potentially a system that doesn’t perform when performance matters most. We often pair boilers with heat pumps, to pick up the slack when the weather or the load exceeds the heat pump’s capacity.

All this to say, do not hire a contractor to install a hydronic heat pump if they don’t know exactly what they’re doing. Seek out a professional who specializes in this emerging technology.

This! This is what your pool's pump/filter room should look like! No chemicals, no lawn chairs, mowers, grass clippings, or yard games! Pool pumps, filtration, and water treatment systems are a hefty investment. Risking that investment by giving too many people access to the space is a problem. Hire a professional to install it. Hire a professional to maintain it. Teach a select few of your staff to monitor it. Otherwise, do not permit entry.

Aquatic facilities can look healthy, comfortable and inviting. But if the water quality isn't professionally monitored, they can be anything but healthy. Water treatment, and the systems that monitor that water, are very critical for the health of bathers and for the lifespan of the pool materials: concrete, liners, piping, filters, pumps, heaters, etc. Ignoring water treatment is a reckless move as a facility manager.
