Our service trucks are out across the Poconos & Tri-State area, and the impact of the Canadian wildfire smoke is crazy. Outdoor pools act like giant air scrubbers, airborne ash and soot are crashing chlorine levels and clouding up filters all across the region.
It’s not just a water problem, it’s a people problem, too. Swimming is a cardio activity. Exercising hard when the AQI is poor forces fine particulates deep into the lungs.
Combined with the irritating chloramines created as chlorine fights the smoke, it’s a recipe for severe eye and respiratory distress for patrons and lifeguards alike.
Our recommendation today: We are advising our commercial clients to monitor local AQI levels closely. If it hits the "Unhealthy" red zone, it's time to pause outdoor operations, let the swimmers head indoors, and let the filters do their work.
