This post is not directed at any one individual or specific incident, nor does it cover every example of poor behavior we've seen recently. The two clips in this video simply highlight a growing lack of respect for our employees, our equipment, and our fellow customers.
We ask only two things of every customer:
1. Conduct yourself in a way that would make your mother proud.
2. Read and follow the rules and requirements posted at the entrance to each wash bay.
The first expectation is broad, but simple. Treat people with kindness, and treat property with respect. If every customer did that, our vacuums, prep station, and other equipment would last longer and be available for everyone to enjoy.
The first clip illustrates how one poor decision can create another. A previous customer damaged the rubber grip on the prep brush. Because of that damage, another customer got adhesive from the exposed tape on his hand. Frustrated, he responded by throwing the brush. Two different customers. Two different poor choices. Both resulted in unnecessary damage.
The second expectation is even simpler, yet it's the one most often overlooked. The posted rules are there to provide the safest, most effective wash possible while protecting our equipment.
In the second clip, the customer completed the wash without issue. The problems came afterward. A pool noodle became lodged in the tire shine applicator, pool floats ended up on the conveyor tracks, and an aluminum can stopped directly under a floor sensor. These items disrupted the operation of the wash and created unnecessary downtime.
At the end of the day, all we ask is for our customers to show patience, respect, and kindness. Have the patience to do things the right way, the respect to care for equipment that everyone uses, and the kindness to consider the people around you.
Those are values that belong not only at the car wash, but in every interaction we have with others.
