🪳 Termite Talk: Bait Stations vs. Liquid

Treatments — What’s the Difference?

When it comes to protecting your home from subterranean termites, not all treatments are created equal. Let’s break down the two most common options so you can make the best decision for your home 👇

🔹 Bait Stations (Monitoring + Elimination)
Bait stations are installed in the soil around your home and work by attracting termites.
✔️ Termites find the bait and bring it back to the colony
✔️ The bait slowly eliminates the entire colony over time
✔️ Great for monitoring termite activity
Pros:
• Targets the colony at the source
• Uses less active product in the soil
• Ongoing protection & monitoring
Cons:
• Takes time to work (not instant)
• Relies on termites finding the bait

🔹 Liquid Termite Treatment (Barrier Protection)
This method involves applying a professional-grade liquid treatment to the soil around your home, creating a protective barrier.
✔️ Kills termites on contact
✔️ Creates an immediate defense zone
✔️ Prevents termites from entering your home
Pros:
• Fast-acting protection
• Proven, long-lasting barrier
• Ideal for active infestations
Cons:
• Doesn’t directly eliminate the entire colony
• Requires proper application for full effectiveness

💡 So… Which One Is Better?
Truth is — it depends on your home, your situation, and your goals.
In many cases, a combination of both can provide the strongest protection 💪

🏡 Protect Your Investment
Subterranean termites live underground and can cause serious damage before you ever see them. Having a licensed professional inspect and recommend the right treatment is key.

At Dakota’s Pest Pros, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions — we tailor every treatment plan to your home.

Memorial Day grind 🇺🇸🐜☀️

Today consisted of the crew splitting up and conquering the day. Chris handled pest control this morning along with a termite annual inspection, while Dakota and I tackled a new residential lawn start-up. After that, we all met up at one of our commercial properties and treated 91 homes for lawn pest control before ending the day with a 5-acre flea and tick spray.

It was long. It was HOT. And I am humbled 😂

Have you ever caught yourself thinking pest control is easy work? Days like today remind me just how hard our guys work day in and day out. Every job matters, and none of this would happen without the team out in the field making it all happen.

We’re a little over one year in, and I still have to pinch myself sometimes that this is what we get to do every day — work together as a family, serve our customers, and continue building something we’re proud of.

Hope everyone had a safe and meaningful Memorial Day ❤️🇺🇸

Happy Memorial Day from all of us at DPP 🇺🇸

Today we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten. ❤️🤍💙

While many are spending the day with family and friends, the DPP team is out running routes today and taking care of our customers. We hope everyone enjoys their day, stays safe, and takes a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Thank you to all who have served and sacrificed for our country. From our DPP family to yours — Happy Memorial Day!

🚨 FORMOSAN TERMITES ARE HERE 🚨

Historically, Formosan termite activity has mainly been concentrated in the Ocala and Jacksonville areas.

Over the past several weeks, however, we have now confirmed multiple inspections involving Formosan termite swarmers right here in Gainesville, Florida.
This is something homeowners need to take seriously.

Formosan termites are a highly aggressive species of subterranean termite capable of causing significant structural damage much faster than standard termites. The good news is they are very treatable — but proper treatment is critical.

One of the biggest questions we are already being asked is:“Can Dakota’s Pest Pros treat Formosan termites?”
The answer is YES. DPP can absolutely treat Formosan termites, and we are fully equipped to provide the proper inspections, treatment plans, and protection options needed for these aggressive termites.

Another very important question we are getting is:“OK, I had an inspection and they only found swarmers. Do I still need treatment?”
With Formosan termites, our professional recommendation is that it is far better to treat than not to treat. Because of how aggressive this species is, early treatment and prevention are extremely important.
Education is key when it comes to Formosan termites because not all termite treatments — or termite policies — are created equal.

Here are a few important things homeowners should know:• If you do not currently have a termite policy in place, now is the time to consider one.• Proper treatment matters — bait stations alone are often not enough in active situations.• Liquid treatments, drilling, and proper application methods are extremely important.• Annual inspections are key to catching activity early.• Always read the fine print on damage repair warranties and understand what is actually covered.

Another question we know homeowners will ask is:“Does DPP offer a damage repair policy for Formosan termites?”
At this time, Dakota’s Pest Pros will not offer a damage repair policy for Formosan termites.
If another provider is willing to offer one, we strongly encourage homeowners to carefully read the fine print. Many damage repair policies contain numerous exclusions and list things as “conducive conditions” that can limit or completely eliminate coverage. In many cases, conducive conditions can be interpreted very broadly.

One of our favorite things to say is:Pest control companies are not in the damage repair industry — they are often in the denial industry.

The reality is that companies will look closely at every condition possible before paying out thousands and thousands of dollars in structural repairs that Formosan termites can cause. That is why it is so important to fully understand exactly what is covered, what is excluded, and what responsibilities fall back on the homeowner.

If you notice swarmers, mud tubes, or anything unusual around your home, do not ignore it. Early detection and proper treatment can make a major difference in protecting your property.

As always, Dakota’s Pest Pros is happy to answer questions and help educate homeowners on the best ways to protect their homes.

Happy Sunday!!

As COO, I wear a lot of different hats around here… and today apparently I’m wearing the “Chris” hat 😂

Dakota needed an extra set of hands to help run a small route today, so I borrowed a uniform, grabbed a sprayer, and officially entered my Pest Pro era for the day.

I’ll say this — I have a whole new level of appreciation for our Pest Pros out in the field because WOW… these uniforms are HOT. Like “how are y’all surviving Florida summers in these?” hot 🥵😂

One thing about our company — nobody is ever “too important” to jump in and help where needed. Whether it’s in the office or out on a route, we’re always willing to do what it takes for our customers and our team.

Teamwork makes the dream work… even if I may have melted a little along the way.

Happy Birthday to our Co-Owner, Chris, better known around here as PawPaw! 🎉

Today we celebrate not only another year of life, but the hard work, wisdom, dedication, and heart that Chris brings to our company every single day.

From helping build this business to always treating customers like family, his impact reaches far beyond work itself.

This year, he is spending his birthday in New York helping pack and move his daughter, Cheyenne, into her new apartment as she begins residency school in Boston.

We know how proud he is of her, and there is no better way for him to spend the day than being there for his family during such a huge milestone.

We are incredibly thankful for everything you do and the example you set for those around you. We hope today is filled with laughter, family, good food, and plenty of celebrating because you deserve it!

Everyone help us wish PawPaw a very Happy Birthday! 🎂🎈

We always love getting a good review!

Unfortunately in this case, we were not able to help this customer with treatment because she is dealing with drywood termites in her home. What we were able to do was provide a thorough free inspection, answer a lot of questions, and give honest education about the situation she’s facing.

When you call us, especially for emergency termite situations, we come running! But one thing that is so important in this industry is proper identification and proper treatment recommendations. Not every termite problem is the same.

Did you know there is currently no true prevention method for drywood termites? And in many cases, the only proper way to fully eliminate them is through fumigation — also known as tenting. Unfortunately, that treatment can be very expensive, and after our inspection we had to rule out spot treatment for this particular situation.

Now, not every drywood termite issue automatically means fumigation is necessary, which is why inspections and second opinions matter so much. Every home and infestation is different, and there are many factors that go into determining the best course of action.
While we do not currently offer fumigation services ourselves, we will always be honest about what we believe is best for your home, even if that means referring you to the fumigation experts.

We are always happy to come out, provide a second opinion, and discuss possible options for your home. Thank you again for trusting us and giving us the opportunity to help!

🪳🦐 Are you allergic to shellfish? Did you know you may also react to roaches too?!
Sounds crazy… but it’s actually backed by science.

Cockroaches and shellfish both contain a protein called tropomyosin. This protein is a major allergen found in shrimp, crab, lobster, and other shellfish — and it’s also found in cockroaches and even dust mites. Because the proteins are so similar, your immune system can sometimes mistake one for the other.

That means people with shellfish allergies may also experience allergic reactions when exposed to cockroach allergens in the home. Researchers have found that exposure to cockroach particles can trigger asthma, allergy symptoms, itchy eyes, congestion, coughing, and respiratory issues — especially in children and sensitive individuals.

This is one more reason why pest control is about more than just “bugs.” Roaches are not only unpleasant… they can impact your health too.

✔️ Reduce allergens
✔️ Protect indoor air quality
✔️ Help create a healthier home environment

Keeping your home pest-free isn’t just comfort… sometimes it’s science. 🧪🪳

There’s a big difference between a local family-owned business and a large corporate company and if you’ve experienced both, you probably already know exactly what I mean.

For us, this is more than just a job or a paycheck. This business is our legacy. It’s our reputation. It’s our family name. Dakota’s name is literally our company name, and that means something to us. When your name is attached to every service you provide, you take things personally. You care differently.

When you own your own business, one of the very first things you have to decide is what your goals are.

For some companies, the goal is growth at all costs. Bigger numbers. Bigger profits. Eventually selling out.

For us, that has never been the goal and it never will be.

Our goal is to build something from the ground up that can be passed down to our children, our grandchildren, and generations to come. We want to create something stable, honest, and lasting. Something we can be proud of.
It’s never been about making millions and millions of dollars. It’s about making a living for our family, creating safe and dependable jobs for future pest control professionals, and building a company that allows freedom and flexibility for the people who work here while still delivering exceptional service to our customers.

We are very much a customer service over profit mindset.
That means we believe people deserve honesty, communication, consistency, and fair pricing.
One thing I hear over and over from customers switching from corporate companies is frustration.

Frustration over constant price increases with no communication or explanation. Just recently a customer told me she called to question a major increase in her bill and was told, “We don’t have to notify you. It’s expensive to live and so is your pest control.”

The audacity and disrespect in that response honestly says everything.
I also hear:
“My cameras showed nobody ever came, but I still got billed.”
“I never see the same technician twice.”
“They don’t know me or my property.”
“I feel like I’m just another number.”

And sadly, those stories are becoming more and more common.

That’s the difference with family-owned.
When you call us, you know who you’re talking to. When we show up, we know your property, your concerns, your pets, your kids, and the specific things you want us paying attention to. Relationships matter to us. Trust matters to us.

Life is expensive. Running a business is expensive. Chemical costs are expensive. Insurance, licensing, equipment, fuel, continuing education, and time all come at a cost. Time is valuable, and experience matters.

There are also many things in pest control that an ordinary person legally cannot do because certain treatments require licensing, certifications, and professional training to safely and properly perform.

But on the flip side of that, we also believe in being fair.

Our company is not here to charge people triple what a service should reasonably cost simply because we can. We are not here to upsell unnecessary treatments or pressure customers into services they don’t need.

We believe in fair pricing for quality work. We believe in honesty. We believe in showing up. We believe in treating people the way we would want our own family treated.

Will we ever be the biggest company around? Probably not.
But being the biggest has never been the goal.

Being trustworthy, dependable, family-oriented, and genuinely good at what we do — that’s the goal.

Every single day.
