Hi all. Early voting is over, and I want to say “thank you” to our amazing group of volunteers for canvassing neighborhoods, working voting locations, and talking with family and friends about this campaign. I also want to thank those who have voted.
This is an important election. We are facing big issues and we need Board members who are singularly focused on preparing our kiddos to be lifelong learners so they can be whatever they want to be when they grow up.
For this to happen, we need to elect individuals committed to serving the needs of others. We need to elect individuals who understand that the purpose of a trustee is to advocate for ALL children. We need to elect individuals committed to bringing the community together.
During this campaign, we talked about a number of big ideas to meet the big challenges we’re facing. Below are just some of those ideas:
1) Improving communication between the Board and community — The problems we face can only be solved by sitting down, talking, and working together.
2) Supporting our Special Education kiddos — These are the most vulnerable amongst our student population and they need us to advocate for them.
3) Focusing on the fundamentals of education (“the three R’s”: reading, writing and arithmetic) to make sure our kids are critical thinkers and have a solid foundation when they leave KISD.
4) Supporting and listening to our amazing group of teachers and staff district-wide.
5) Bringing back pep rallies, parades and service-oriented events to foster and nurture the bonds that unite us as a KISD family.
6) Support innovative programs such as KCAL and others, but also look to the future by offering STEAM and language opportunities for our youngest kiddos.
So how do these big ideas become reality? The first step is your vote. The next is when we begin to have discussions at the dinner table, at the coffee shop, over social media, and church with friends and family. The last step is when those conversations turn into action and we become active participants in the education of ALL students.
This Saturday, May 1, I humbly ask for your vote so we can continue to keep Keller ISD exceptional. In doing so, we continue to fulfill our promise as a community to ALL kids, which is to help them become lifelong learners so they can meet the challenges of not only today but also tomorrow.
The polls are open 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. I look forward to seeing you there. Thank you again for your support.
Best,
Charles
