It is with profound sadness that we announce that our brother, friend, and colleague, Officer Dan Carroll, has passed away. He was 43 years old. Dan was hired as a Keizer police officer in May of 2005. Before coming to us, he worked as a reserve officer in both the Talent and Phoenix (Oregon) police departments and was a full-time officer in Seaside.

In May of last year, Dan was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Over the months, he fought hard, with remarkable, but not unexpected determination as he underwent numerous treatments. Dan battled his illness as he lived his life; courageously. We will never forget Dan—his infectious laugh, friendship, work ethic, commitment to our profession, and the ability to always be trusted to do the right thing. Dan loved his job. During his treatments and while very ill, he would often come to the police department to catch up on various events and help out wherever he could.

Though we wish we had more time with him, we are forever grateful that Dan and his family chose our police family to call home.
