At this time I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has reached out to our family since suddenly losing Mark on April 27. Your cards, kind words, and real help has been gratefully received. Hearing how much you cared about Mark, what he meant to you as a person as well as a service provider, has been a balm for our hearts.

We never in a million years expected that this would happen. As of today we still wait to hear why he’s gone, with no expected timeline for that information.

Due to circumstances out of anyone’s control, Your Pool Medic LLC, of which Mark was the sole owner, will be dissolved.

It has been an honor to be the wife of the best pool cleaner I’ve ever met

As many of you may know my husband, Mark, passed away suddenly. A couple of people have stepped in to help while we prepare for a funeral, for which I am thankful.

Your Pool Medic is still a pool servicing company that is fully functioning. I know Mark's wishes with regard to his company and plans going forward as he was working toward a future retirement. I plan to fulfill those wishes and serve our customers, just as he would.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this unexpected transition,
Mrs Pool Medic

Pollen:
I hate it. I could really just end this post right here!

If you haven’t backwashed your sand filter in the last 30 minutes, it is probably time to do it.
If you haven’t cleaned your cartridge filter in the las hour, it’s probably time to do it.
If you haven’t cleaned you DE filter today, well, I’m just sorry you have a DE filter. That’s rough with all this pollen!

Okay, so I may be exaggerating a little, but this time of the year, you really need to keep up with the filter cleanings here in Middle Georgia. That pollen gets so thick that it will drive up your pressure and cause problems for you.
It is also a great idea to increase your pump run times to help get the pollen out of the pool. If you haven’t already switched to daytime run times, I feel like you can also do that. I believe the freeze danger for us in Houston County definitely is past. If you are further north, just keep an eye on the weather forecast.

Pool covers:
If you cover your pool (which I strongly discourage in Middle Georgia), it is time to get that cover off and start balancing that water. The temperatures are going up and the longer you leave the cover on, the worse condition your water, equipment and pool surface will be in.
If you need help removing the cover, or if you remove it and find a situation that you just don’t feel like tackling yourself, give me a call. I can help you with any or all of this process.

Rain:
These big rain storms are hitting us hard here in Middle Georgia this year! Make sure to go out and check your water level in your pools and drain it down a bit if it is above your skimmer openings, or worse at your coping. Even if you have an overflow, go out for a quick check, those overflows can get clogged with debris.
If you do need to bring your water level down and you have a sand filter, it never hurts to backwash to make sure your sand is clean. Might as well take advantage of the free water!
Also, for everyone, remember, your water chemistry gets diluted from all this rain, so it’s a great idea to check all of your readings this week and adjust as necessary.

Rain:
With all the rain we got here in Moddle Georgia yesterday, it is once again a great opportunity to backwash your sand filters and take advantage of the high water levels. After backwashing, it is always a good time to add a phosphate remover/filter aid. This is really important after this rain to help get out all the stuff brought in by the rain. My recommendation for this treatment is Pool Perfect Total.
Also, this coming week, I recommend checking your CYA, salt, and calcium levels when you do your water testing. These three tests don’t need to be done every week like chlorine, pH, and alkalinity, because they don’t typically fluctuate much. It is however a great idea to check them after a heavy rain due to the dilution, and monthly other times.

This is the Polaris Freedom. A battery operated, cordless scrubbing robot. I am currently testing a couple of them out on my pools. If you have been considering getting rid of cords and hoses on your robot, stay tuned for my reviews on these units. So far I am very impressed with them. I will soon be able to give a in depth review on how I think they will work for you as homeowners.

UPDATE:
I have been using 2 of these cordless robots on my route for the last three weeks and love them. I have been putting them in the pools while I test, treat, skim, clean the baskets, backwash, etc…. Then I take the robots out and am amazed at how great of o job they have done in those 15-20 minutes. I then keep rotate them on the charging base that I keep in my truck in between jobs.
With me using them this way, they are getting way more cycles than you as a homeowner will give them, and they are working all day, every day. I have been impressed with the way they clean, their ease of getting them in and out of the pool, their battery life, and their recharge time.

I would absolutely recommend one of these as a cordless, rechargeable option for a pool robot.

If you are interested in a corded version, my #1 recommendation is the big brother to this Freedom, the Alpha IQ+. If you want a pressure side cleaner that utilizes your booster pump, the Quattro is the way to go. If you want a suction cleaner, the Polaris Atlas does a good job, but I prefer the three robotic cleaners as they have onboard debris collection.
All three of these robots do great job scrubbing, and are easy to retrieve from the pool and clean. The Alph IQ+ is programmable and can be controlled/monitored by an app on your phone. The Quattro can be set to run through automation as it runs with your booster pump.
I hope this helps you in looking at options for your pool. Feel free to call me or message me if you have more detailed questions and would like more help.

Good Morning!
I’m sure there are a lot of you out there anxious to be done with the cold weather and get into the swim season. I say the swim season is never over here in Middle Georgia!
Farmers Almanac calls our last frost date as March 20th, but I believe we are done with any hard freezes, and this week, our temperatures are going be nearing the 80° mark. This means that the water temperature in your pools is starting to increase. With this increase in temperatures, there are a few things to keep in mind:
1) If you haven’t already been doing it, get all the leaves and debris out of your pool. If left in your pool, they become algae food and will also stain your surface.
2) Backwash your sand filters, or clean your cartridges in your cartridge filter. This in preparation for the pollen that will be settling in your pool.
3) Switch your pump run time to daylight hours so your water is moving while the sunlight is hitting the water and promoting algae growth. Run times vary based on a lot of factors, but as a rule of thumb, 8 hours/day should really be a minimum from spring till fall. The longer you run your equipment, the more filtration you get and the less chance of algae growth. Also if you have a salt system, you will get chlorine generated throughout a longer period of the day.
4) Start up a summer regimen of phosphate remover/filter aid. I recommend Pool Perfect Total. I use 8 oz after filter cleaning and 4 oz every week that doesn’t get a filter cleaning for most pools. Large pools can use a little bit more per dose.
5) Check your salt level if you have a salt system and bring the level up to recommended amount for your system. Each system varies, but all are between 3000 and 4000ppm. Now is also a great time to inspect and clean you salt cell to ensure proper operation for the season.
6) Do a complete water analysis to include saturation index based on your current temperature and make sure you water is balanced and happy.
7) Scrub any spots where you see pollen or other organic material collecting. This is usually along the water line and on skimmer openings, returns, lights, hand rails, and any transitions from one surface to another.

RAIN(Lots of it):
We have had a lot of rain in the last 24 hours. Check your water level in your pool to make sure it is not above your skimmers, or worse close to your coping. If the water is above the top of your skimmer opening, the skimmer cannot work properly and pull in the leaves and othe floating debris. This means it will the eventually sink to the bottom and become harder to get out. If the water level gets to the coping, it can get behind your liner or concrete and cause problems.
Take advantage of this free water, and backwash your sand filters to get them clean and ready for all the pollen that is about to bloom with all this rain. If you have a cartridge filter, you should also consider cleaning them now if it’s been more than a month since you last cleaned them. Once the pollen starts, the filters get hit really hard, and they need to start fresh!
I also recommend doing a full chemical analysis this week due to the dilution that has taken place with all this rain. Water temperatures are starting to go up, so make sure you get your temperature and use that to calculate your saturation index as that affects your balance. As the temperature goes up, those of us with salt systems will begin to get some chlorine production from those systems, so it is also a good time to check your salt level and bring it back up to optimal level for your system. If you are unsure what that level is for your system, message me and tell me what system you have and I’ll let you know(each manufacturer is slightly different but they are all between 3000 and 4000ppm).

Happy Swimming,
Your Pool Medic

5 1/2 weeks until our last frost date here in Houston County! The leaves have almost all come off of all the deciduous trees(FINALLY). This means that now is a great time to take advantage of the 70° weather this weekend and get out and do some spring cleaning on your pool .
Check all your chemical readings, and make sure that your saturation index is balanced based on the current water temperature . Give the sides and bottom a good brushing, make sure to get all lights, return jets and skimmer outlets. Then wait a day and backwash your sand filter or clean your cartridges if you have a cartridge filter. If you are one of the few with a DE filter, I hope you already know what to do for it, but if not, PM me and I’ll explain that to you.
After cleaning your filter is a great time to add a good phosphate remover/filter aid. I recommend Pool Perfect Total. This will help your filter catch all the nasties floating around in your water, giving it a cloudy appearance.
If you have a robot, it is also a good time to clean or replace the bag or filter elements. A good rinse works for weekly cleaning on these, but an occasional overnight soak in a solution of 20ppm chlorine water will help remove additional deposits and allow the robot to do a better job. After the soak, rinse thoroughly and then do a second soak with an ounce of Pool Perfect Total.
These steps will go a long way in making your pool healthier and happier and making it easier on you to get your pool ready for swimmers when the warm weather arrives and stays.
