How Does a Septic System Work?
A septic tank is used to collect and filtrate wastewater/biodegradable matters.
When the waste materials meet the holding tank, a natural separation process begins. The heavier waste referred to as sludge weighs itself down into the bottom, the lighter materials referred to as scum will float to the top
During this natural settling process, the effluent known as clarified liquid that was treated with a naturally occurring bacteria exits the tanks through an outlet pipe and began to flow into the drain field.
Through perforated pipes buried underground, the effluent percolates into the soil where the bacteria purifies it further.
How often should your septic be serviced?
This can depend on household size, and tank size, but on average maintenance should be preformed every 3-5 years to ensure your system is functioning properly.
How can you help maintain your septic system?
* Avoid planting deep rooted trees or shrubs near the system
* Always use a trained technician to pump the tank
* Do not put harsh chemicals or paint down the drain
* Avoid grease & fat to enter the drains
* Conserve water usage
