Hands in the air if you have a filter in your septic tank!
Don't know if you have a filter? Totally cool, most homeowners don't know they have one.
Here is a list of why it is important to know if you have a filter:
1. Prevents clogs and backups
The effluent filter stops solids from leaving the tank and entering the drain field. If it gets clogged, wastewater can back up into the house or overflow the tank.
2. Protects the drain field
The drain field is the most expensive part of a septic system. A clean filter keeps solids out, helping the drain field absorb water properly and last much longer.
3. Keeps the system working efficiently
A dirty filter slows wastewater flow, which can cause odors, slow drains, or alarms to go off in systems with pumps.
4. Avoids emergency repairs
Regular filter cleaning is quick and inexpensive compared to fixing a failed drain field or dealing with sewage backups.
5. Extends the life of your septic system.
Routine maintenance (including filter cleaning) can add years—sometimes decades—to the life of the system.
