Our annual message to protect you and your family
BATS! BATS! BATS!
If a bat is found inside your home
-Do turn the lights on
-Do close the door if possible and place a towel or other item at the bottom.
-Do call Pest Patrol 24 hr 401-463-3116 no matter what time to capture and have the bat tested for rabies.
-Make sure your pets are up to date on their rabies vaccination. Otherwise your pet may face quarantine if the bat is positive or not tested.
PLEASE DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING:
-Do not open a windows or doors!
-Do not handle the bat!
-Do not hit the bat damaging the skull can negate the test!
-Do not let the bat go!
-Do not assume that the bat is healthy!
-Do not assume you have had no contact!
Bite, scratch or saliva are all exposure to potential Rabies.
If anyone has slept in the home 24 hours prior to seeing the bat the RI dept of health wants bats to be tested for rabies.
Saliva is potentially active with rabies virus on a surface for over 30 minutes until dry.
A bite or marks may not be noticeable. If you hit a bat or handle even with gloves saliva may be on those items. Which in turn your handling.
Bats are beneficial and beautiful creatures. But belong outside not in your home. If you have had a bat or suspect you have bats you can call :
