THE SMART WAY TO PROTECT YOUR HOME FROM WILDLIFE IN NORTH GEORGIA

If you’ve lived in North Georgia for any amount of time, you already know—wildlife and pest issues are not a matter of IF, but WHEN. Between rodents, carpenter bees, mosquitoes, snakes, and everyday household pests, your home is constantly under pressure from multiple angles.

After 15+ years in the field, one thing is clear: the most effective approach is not reacting to problems—it’s preventing them. That’s exactly why we built our WILDLIFE & PEST PREVENTION BUNDLE.

We might not be the absolute cheapest, but our pricing is very competitive—and our level of service, detail, and effectiveness is what sets us apart. This is a family business. Everyone who steps onto your property is a partner in the company and has a vested interest in the success of our programs.

Most homeowners don’t call until something becomes obvious. You see a snake, notice bees drilling into wood, hear scratching in the attic, or your yard becomes overrun with mosquitoes. By that point, you’re already behind. A recurring prevention program changes that. We’re consistently on your property, catching issues early and addressing multiple problem areas before they turn into bigger, more expensive problems.

This is not a quick spray-and-go service. Our approach is built around INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT, meaning we identify the target species, treat the source, focus on exterior control first, and minimize unnecessary exposure inside your home. We take the time to do it right—because that’s what actually works long term.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE WILDLIFE & PEST PREVENTION BUNDLE:

• INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT – The foundation. Designed to stop ants, roaches (excluding German roaches), spiders, silverfish, earwigs, and scorpions BEFORE they enter your home. Our goal is to eliminate the pests outside the home before they get inside. Less pesticide applications on the inside - healthier home!

• MOSQUITO CONTROL (SEASONAL)– We use mosquito stations that continue working after we leave, targeting both adults and larvae to break the breeding cycle—not just provide temporary relief while we are there. It keeps going long after we are gone.

• CARPENTER BEE PROGRAM – Custom built traps, strategic placement, baiting, and sealing competing holes to reduce activity and protect your wood over time. Replaced every year!

• RODENT PREVENTION – Exterior-focused control using tamper-resistant bait stations that are monitored, rotated, and maintained for long-term effectiveness. It is critical to keep the population under control.

• SNAKE CONTROL (SEASONAL) – Snake Repellent (last up to 3 months) customized for us (no Naphthalene which is on the CDC list as cancer causing), while there we search and remove any snakes found during our visit. The goal is to keep snakes moving—not settling on your property.

Every part of this program is designed specifically for North Georgia—seasonal patterns, local wildlife behavior, and the issues we see year after year. This is not a generic service.

WHY WE BUNDLE IT
These problems don’t exist in isolation. Rodents attract snakes. Moist environments attract insects. Wood damage invites bees. Outdoor pressure eventually becomes indoor problems. Bundling makes everything more effective. Because we’re already on your property, we’re able to do more during each visit and stay ahead of issues instead of reacting to them. It also saves you money by combining multiple services into one trip.

• Rodent bait stations are checked and kept full more often, making them more effective
• Carpenter bee traps are emptied, adjusted, and maintained as needed
• Treatments stay on schedule without gaps
• If we see a snake during a visit, we remove it at NO EXTRA CHARGE

The result is simple: more coverage, more consistency, and better long-term control.

THE BOTTOM LINE
You can handle these issues one at a time… or you can stay ahead of them. This program covers the most common, most costly, and most recurring problems we see in North Georgia—and does it in a way that’s structured, efficient, and proven over time.

OUR BUNDLED HOME PROTECTION PLAN includes Pest Control, Rodent Control, Mosquito Control, Carpenter Bee Program, and Snake Control.

If you want to protect your home the right way and avoid constant one-off issues, this is the program we stand behind. We combine a full year of services—including all initial visits and setups—and spread the cost into 12 manageable monthly payments. In following years, the pricing is reduced even further.

Woodpecker damage? Here’s what most people don’t realize 👇

Woodpeckers are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. That means it is illegal to harm them, trap them, remove active nests, or disturb eggs without proper permits. On top of that, they are protected as native non-game wildlife by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

So when people ask, “Can’t you just get rid of them?” — the answer is NO.

The damage you’re seeing—holes in siding, trim, or chimney areas—is usually tied to nesting behavior or territorial drumming. But even when they’re causing damage, the law still protects them.

Here’s how we handle it the right way: We start by inspecting the cavity (VIDEO SHOWN) with a scope to determine if there are eggs or active nesting. If eggs are present, no work can be done that would disturb them until the eggs have hatched and babies have left the nest. If the cavity is clear, we move forward with our Woodpecker Hazing Program.

This is a professional, legal, and highly effective deterrent system designed to stop the behavior and prevent further damage—without harming the bird and without putting the homeowner at risk of violating federal law.

The Bottom line:

This isn’t a “remove the animal” situation—it’s a “change the behavior and protect the home” solution.

If woodpeckers are damaging your home, reach out and we’ll walk you through the right way to handle it.

As colder weather settles into North Georgia, wildlife behavior changes fast — especially from Johns Creek (Duluth) all the way up to Dawsonville or Blue Ridge.

Some wildlife species slow down or seem to disappear once temperatures drop. Bats move into hibernation, insects and bugs die off or go dormant, moles tunnel deeper underground, snakes retreat to overwintering areas, and hornets abandon active nests. But winter doesn’t mean wildlife problems stop. It means the problem shifts.

Cold weather is peak season for animals actively seeking warmth inside homes. Squirrels, raccoons, rats, and mice become more aggressive about entering attics, walls, soffits, and crawlspaces to nest and escape the cold. These areas provide shelter, warmth, and a quiet place to raise young, which is why many homeowners start hearing scratching, running, or thumping noises during winter months.

If you’re noticing new activity in your attic or walls, it’s not something to ignore. Winter wildlife issues rarely resolve on their own.
Southern Wildlife Management provides professional, humane wildlife trapping and removal throughout North Georgia, serving areas from Johns Creek to Dawsonville.

With the cold weather heading our way this is the time of the year where you start hear little pitter patter in our attics & walls. This includes Flying Squirrels, Grey Squirrels, Raccoons & Rats.

Based upon many frantic phone calls, I wanted to put your mind at ease when you start hearing noises and dispel the hype some companies use to create a sense of urgency in hiring them:

1) They are not trying to get inside your living space. The digging & chewing you hear is them trying to build a nest to have babies. It is very uncommon for them to enter the living space unless by accident.

2) If they are in your attic, it is super-highly unlikely that you will get a disease from them. You do not live in the attic, you do not stay up there and breath in the attic dust and particulates so there is little risk. Do not panic!

3) We can seal up your home to prevent future entry. It is an everyday occurrence for us to prevent wildlife entry. We have been doing this for 15 years.

THINGS YOU CAN DO TO REDUCE THE CHANCES OF ATTRACTING RODENTS TO YOUR HOME:

1) Cut back branches that come close to the house and especially touching the roof. Although you can have ZERO trees or branches and they can still get in.... the easier you make access the more likely they will come.

2) Stop feeding domestic animals outside. Just stop it! It seems like the right thing to do but what actually happens is the wrong critters are drawn to it and where there is food they will come in numbers.

3) If you don't want rats outside, remove bird feeders and clean up after your dogs. Dog waste can have undigested grains which as gross as it sounds it attracts rats.

4) Move all clutter and debris along the edge of your home. It gives a sense of security for rats to travel without being seen or detected.

5) Did I mention, stop feeding animals outside?

6) Cleanup any food debris on grills and bring in anything that smells of food.

Hopefully this post will help you to prevent a problem. If not, Our family business hopes that you will think of us if a problem should arise. We can immediately help!
