While bats are essential contributors to our local ecosystem—specifically for natural insect control—their presence inside a home or commercial building is a serious matter.

𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 (𝐀𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐋 𝟏𝐒𝐓 – 𝐉𝐔𝐋𝐘 𝟑𝟏𝐒𝐓) It is imperative to understand that bats are a protected species. From April 1st through July 31st, we are in the "maternity black-out period." During these months, female bats give birth to pups that are initially unable to fly. Because these flightless babies remain in the roost, standard exclusion work is strictly regulated to prevent the harm of the colony.

𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒 Before we initiate any exclusion, we perform a detailed inspection to verify the status of the colony. We look for indicators to confirm whether flightless pups are present. If we identify an active maternity colony, we pause exclusion work to ensure no animals are trapped inside or harmed. Our approach is always "wildlife-first"; we prioritize compliance with both state and federal laws to ensure the safety and survival of these protected pollinators.

𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐒𝐄 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐍 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓? We are NWCOA Bat Standards Certified, meaning our methods follow the highest national standards for both bat conservation and professional wildlife handling.

• Thorough Inspection: We identify all entry points and assess the roost's status. We never take shortcuts when it comes to the safety of the colony.

• Humane Exclusion: We use non-lethal, legal methods that allow bats to exit your structure safely once the season permits. We never trap or harm the colony.

• Professional Sealing: We use high-quality, critter-proof materials to seal entry points, ensuring an aesthetic, professional finish.

• Guano Cleanup: We handle the necessary cleanup and sanitization to remove health hazards while protecting the property.

𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 We stand behind our work. Every bat exclusion service we perform comes with a FREE 10-YEAR WARRANTY, providing you with long-term peace of mind.

If you suspect a colony has taken up residence, please contact us. We will evaluate the situation professionally, ethically, and in full compliance with the law.

HONEYBEE HIVE IN YOUR WALLS? This is NOT a DIY job.

This is what a real honeybee hive inside a structure looks like. Not just bees — but honey, wax comb, brood, and years of buildup hidden behind your walls.

Here’s what most homeowners don’t realize:

In Georgia, it is ILLEGAL to remove a honeybee hive from a structure without proper licensing. Anyone performing hive removals inside homes must be a Certified Honeybee Control & Removal Operator and hold a pest control company license.
This isn’t just paperwork — it ensures:

✔ Proper live removal (not extermination)
✔ Safe handling of bees, honey, and comb
✔ Full clean-out of wax, brood, and debris (critical to prevent re-infestation)
✔ Correct sealing of entry points so bees don’t come right back

We donate healthy hives to local beekeepers, allowing them to properly care for and help the colony thrive during transition.

Here’s the mistake we see all the time: Someone removes “the bees”… but leaves behind the hive. That leads to:

✖ Rotting honey inside walls
✖ Ants, roaches, and secondary infestations
✖ Melted honey leaking through ceilings
✖ Bees coming right back next season

Proper honeybee removal = FULL CUT-OUT + CLEAN-OUT + EXCLUSION

At Southern Wildlife Management, we handle:
• Structural hive removals
• Live bee relocation and beekeeper transfer
• Full comb & honey removal
• Repair-ready cleanouts
• Entry point sealing

If you’re seeing bee activity going in and out of siding, soffits, or walls — don’t wait. The longer they stay, the bigger (and more expensive) it gets.

PROFESSIONAL MOLE CONTROL SERVICES IN NORTH GEORGIA

Raised ridges across your lawn? Soft, spongy soil underfoot? Those are signs of active mole tunneling. Moles travel just beneath the surface while feeding on earthworms and grubs, creating visible turf damage that can spread quickly if left untreated.

At Southern Wildlife Management, our mole control service is all-inclusive and professionally managed based on the active conditions at your property. We service from Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Cummming all the way up to Dawsonville. The Mole in the picture just was pulled out of a lawn in Alpharetta today.

Why Mole Damage Expands Quickly>

Moles do not eat grass, but their tunneling:
• Separates turf roots from soil
• Creates unstable walking surfaces
• Damages ornamental beds
• Expands daily as new tunnels are formed

DIY repellents and sonic devices rarely stop established tunnel systems. Once activity is visible, professional control is typically required.

Our mole control service may include:
• Mole Trapping – Strategic placement in active primary tunnels
• Mole Baiting – Used when soil conditions and activity patterns make it appropriate
• Tunnel Gassing – Using carbon monoxide delivered through specialized mole burrow equipment

Our tunnel gassing system uses carbon monoxide generated from controlled exhaust equipment designed specifically for underground burrows. This is not gasoline, and no liquid fuel is poured into the ground. The gas is injected directly into active tunnels, where it displaces oxygen and acts quickly within the confined underground system. When applied properly, it does not harm grass or root systems because it remains within the tunnel airspace and dissipates once exposed to open air.
That said, tunnel gassing is the method we use the least. Unlike trapping, which provides physical confirmation of success, gassing does not provide visible feedback or confirmation of mortality. For that reason, trapping is often preferred when conditions allow. The technician evaluates active runs, soil conditions, and tunnel patterns, then discusses the most appropriate method—or combination of methods—with the homeowner.

Correct identification of primary tunnels is critical. Random placement or guessing typically leads to poor results.

When to Schedule Mole Service >

If fresh ridges appear daily or tunneling continues to spread across your yard, professional intervention is recommended. Mole activity in North Georgia lawns can escalate quickly, especially in irrigated or well-maintained turf.

"A CHRISTMAS IN THE ATTIC"

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and up in the attic,
Came sounds that were anything but static.
Rustles and scurries, a soft little pitter,
From critters who’d found the warm space much fitter.

The stockings were hung and the tree stood bright,
While squirrels and mice planned their own festive night.
In gable and soffit, behind the old beam,
A raccoon curled up, lost deep in a dream.

The bats hung still in their shadowy perch,
While rats held a meeting near Grandma’s old church.
“Tonight is the night!” said the mouse with a squeak,
“Let’s feast on the crumbs they’ve left us to seek!”

The family below was unaware,
Of the attic creatures, cozy and fair.
While carols played soft and laughter rang,
Above, the critters prepared for their bang.

The squirrel brought nuts from an old dusty stash,
The raccoon uncovered a box marked “trash.”
The mice laid out crumbs of a cookie long gone,
And bats flapped along to a sweet yuletide song.

But then, from below, there arose such a clatter!
The critters froze still—what could be the matter?
They peeked through the gaps, and what did they see?
A man in red boots by the lights of the tree!

“Santa!” they whispered, their eyes open wide.
The raccoon leaned closer, his tail brushing the side.
With a twinkle and wink, Santa reached for his sack,
Unaware of the critters watching from back.

He filled up the stockings and set down the toys,
Then vanished away with his magical poise.
The critters in awe, full of Christmas delight,
Snuggled back in the attic and whispered, “Good night.”

So if you hear rustles this holiday season,
Know it’s just critters call it home—and for good reason!
They’ve found in your attic a home safe and warm,
To spend Christmas Eve away from the storm.

But if their parties get loud and your peace disappears,
Call Southern Wildlife Management—we’ll bring you good cheer.
With affordable pricing and long warranties to boot,
We’re your local family business, trusted and astute.

For over 15 years, we’ve served with pride,
Securing your home so critters can’t hide.
So this Christmas, rest easy, let your attic be clear,
And enjoy the season—critter-free cheer!

This little snake is not a baby Rattlesnake or Copperhead! So many people misidentify it, and we hope to educate so fewer are needlessly harmed.

Meet the Brown Snake, also called DeKay’s Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi). This small, non-venomous snake is native to North America and thrives here in North Georgia. Typically only 9-13 inches long, it’s easy to recognize by its brown or grayish-brown color, with a lighter central stripe and tiny black spots.

These shy, docile snakes prefer hiding under rocks, logs, or leaves, whether in woodlands, gardens, or even city areas. They’re pest controllers, feeding mainly on slugs, snails, and earthworms—using unique jaws to extract snails from their shells!

Brown snakes rarely bite and are non-aggressive. When threatened, they may flatten their bodies to look bigger or release a musky odor as a defense.

An interesting fact: they give birth to live young, with litters ranging from 3 to 41 in late summer.

As “Least Concern” on the conservation scale, Brown Snakes play a vital role in pest control, especially in gardens, helping keep ecosystems balanced. Let’s help protect these beneficial little neighbors! 🐍
