Buying a home in Alabama? A general home inspection and a WDI/WIR report serve different purposes. Lenders may require a separate report from a licensed pest professional because we look specifically for wood-destroying organisms and related conditions that can be missed during a standard home inspection.

A WDI/WIR report checks for termite activity and damage, crawlspace and basement moisture issues, fungus and mold, and powder post beetle damage. A home inspector isn’t a substitute for this specialized inspection.

That little saucer under a flower pot can become a mosquito nursery. Larvae can develop in water that’s been standing for four days, so fogging adults alone may only reset the cycle. Treating breeding water targets the next batch, while fogging addresses adult mosquitoes.

A mouse needs a gap the size of a dime. As fall cools down across Alabama, walk your home's perimeter and check these spots:

- Dryer vents and the flaps around them.
- Gaps where plumbing, gas, and electrical lines enter the house.
- Foundation cracks, especially at the corners.
- Roofline and soffit gaps, and attic vents.
- The chimney and any gaps around the flue.
- Where air conditioning lines meet the exterior wall.

If you find openings, seal what you can. If you have already heard scratching in the ceiling, seal-and-hope is not a plan.
